7x61 S&H Reel

Yesterday I walked into a LGS and they discovered that I was the one that recently purchased a Schultz & Larsen M60 chambered in 7x61 S&H. The clerk said "Hold on a minute, I'll be right back."

When he came back, he had a small container of factory loaded Norma 7x61 S&H. Apparently a gentleman had looked at the rifle earlier, and was going to buy it if he could find ammo. He went to a gun show that weekend, found this small container, bought it, went back to the store to get the rifle, and I had already bought the rifle.

Well, he gave the LGS the container, and yesterday they gave it to me! I'm still going to get dies and brass, but it is awesome that I can now shoot this rifle sooner rather than later.

How many of you have seen 7x61 S&H/Super before... because this is a first for me. Here are some pics of the 7x61 between 7x57 and 7mmRemMag. It's just a tad shorter than 7mmRemMag.
Hi,
I own a 7x61 S&H. Originally it was called the Sharpe & Hart after it's developer Philip Sharp.
Later, Norma thinned the walls of the case to increase case capacity by approx 5 grains. This was to try to compete with the 7 mm Rem Mag performance. The modified cartridge was called the 7x61 Super, but its external dimensions remained the same. You can only reload for it now as I do & Hornady make dies for this cartridge.
I am getting just under 3000 fps with a 162 grain SST projectile with 65.5 grains of Reloder 26.

These rifles and the 7x61sh is beautiful Classics. I think the 7x61sh has just the right proportion volume to the caliber and I find it to be quite efficient Round.I have used it on most North America game with the 160 NP. I use CH re-size die, it seems to fit the camber in my rifle the best.

Welcome to the 7x61 club!! Mine is a 98 Mauser version, 4 digit SN, with a 24", 1/12 twist bbl. It was my dad's primary muley and elk rifle from the late 1950's using the Norma 160 gr loads. The last time he hunted with it he took a big West Texas muley with it in 1979. I have some original brass and a couple of boxes of Norma 160 gr factory ammo. I've made brass from 7 Rem Mag and it headspaced fine. I actually scored a couple of boxes of new Norma 7x61 Super brass last year!! Wooo-hooo!! It's going to be one of my next projects --stock, scope, trigger work, and new loads. Looking forward to the build. Yes.... The 7 Rem Mag (and others...) is plug & play, but its the fun of the build!

PGZ,
I culled thru my stock of reloading dies and came up with 2 sets of FL reloading dies. I is RCBS 7mm x 61 SH and the other is Redding 7mm x 61 IMP W/TAP EXP. If you or anyone can use them let me know as I no longer reload either of those cartridges. See attached photos.RCBS 1.jpgRcbs 2.jpgRedding 1.jpgRedding 2.jpg

It is very similar to a Weatherby. Some of the very first Weatherby rifles were made by Schultz & Larsen and chambered in .378 Weatherby Mag, and if I remember right, they made a lot of barrels for Weatherby too.
One rifle I wish I would have kept--my S&L 378 weatherby...it was a super cool rifle
