I have an Aimpoint 5000DX red dot. At first I thought it was not working, but if I leave it on for a few minutes, it is working great! Is this just the way it works or is it being just flakey?

You got one OLD Aim Point 34 years. It should come right on, but the electronics are dated. I would still contact Aimpointsupport for more info on it. I had a friend in the 80s from Rode Island that one on his 30-30. Shot many a deer and no one else had such a neat optic. We were all sporting iron sights or Weaver 4X Scopes.

Yes, old. The gun was proofed in 1990 and the Aimpoint was integrated to it. I reached out to aimpoint and they may not have parts for one this old. But it has claw mounts that fit it to my gun. So, if I replace it with a newer one it must have a 30mm tube. So my ring mounts will fit.

Just waiting back from Aimpoint to see what they can do. Upper claw mounts were handmade to the claw bases on the gun. Done with fine gunsmiths done so well that when the scope was removed and replaced it did maintain zero. These claw mounts fit together with an amazing precision!

Probably I could use the current upper claw mounts to attach to a new 30mm tube. But lets see what Aimpoint can do.

Here is my Aimpoint with the claw uppers and the next picture is how the claw mounts exactly fit my claw bases. The gun with the lower bases is a different gun, but you get the idea.

My Veratschnig is in the third pictures

Come on Len and Jill. Love to have you visit. The rifle is a SXS E. Veratschnig Sidelock Double Rifle with Zeiss Scope and Aimpoint Red Dot, 7X65 Cal. The same as a 280 Remington. It has detachable sidelocks, automatic ejectors and a Chopper Lumper barrel. Never knew what that meant. had to look it up on Google. Will send some pictures tomorrow.
