Hunting inside 300 yards.....

I've used 2.5-8x36 for deer

3-9x? Vanilla size to me,

I gotta wonder is the 4-12x40 a better choice for the dog sized targets?
The larger bell giving a wider field of view and letting more light in?

I never tried one that I can recall.

But then again I would definitely give it a go at up to 600 yards if I had access/found to a place to do it.

I'd like to have one rifle to shoot "far"

When I think of hunting smaller game

I always think of shooting clay pigeons on a bank at 200yards........always have the scope cranked and never seems enough w 2.5-8, or 3-9
Is why I wonder about more for "small" target

Good evening!
We had Leupold Custom Shop (years ago) make us several custom scopes. They were VXIII 4.5X14 side focus and Illuminated reticle. We had them made with Custom Target Turrents for elevation & wind and we have QD mounts to change from day to NV or different rifles. The one we have on our Coyote/PD/Chuck .223 Rig also has a Burris Fast Fire Red Dot for close encounters and an ARD.
Sorry for the POOR QULITY pictures. We recently got new Pixel 8 Pro phones that was said to have the latest tech in cameras, but I don't know how to use. I put the "Flash" on all time, but verry little light.
This rig is AWESOME and shoots well under 1/3 MOA.
Thanks
Len & Jill
