This was a 228 yard shot on a groundhog, on the creek bank edge in the distance you have to look close the groundhog is the very black spot at a hair right of 12 O'clock , I took a shot with a 15 grain Winchester NTX @ 3300 fps and the shot was good as shown in picture #2, still a long haul for a 17 rimfire.

I am surprised the .17 WSM is not more popular than it is. Perhaps it is well before its time?
Mostly it is a host rifle problem. Low quality rifles just aren't as fun to shoot. Now we've got RimX's and that's going to breathe new life into the cartridge! I've got a pile of apex level 17WSM rifles in stock right now.

The 17 WSM is probably my most favorite round when I go P.D. shootin. I've hit em at over 300 many times. Bad medicine for the few groundhogs I find around here, too.

I agree, $5K is too much. HS Precision had made a prototype single shot rifle, but they said it would cost too much to sell so they scrapped it. What a loss! I got to shoot that prototype and was it a winner! I would have paid $2K for it as I'm sure it would have come out in a multi shot version. Heck, I'd take it as single shot! I didn't get what H.S. said their number was though. But, boy, what a rifle! That was also my first encounter with the 17WSM. To say I was impressed with both of them would be a big understatement!

Sorry fellas, they aren't $5k anymore. We'll be raising prices to $5500-$6k for the next run of those rifles. Then we're packaging them with Tangent Theta 315M optics... so that will get you up right around $10,000 for the best 17WSM package on the planet.

Sadly we don't have any more in stock, as the entire batch sold out pretty quickly... but we hope to have more stock in the spring.

Enjoy! :)

(I know I do!)

I really like my Savage B Mag .17WSM. Took a little to learn how to shoot it but once I got the hang of it I can hold a little over 1" at 300yd.
