well I asked this question in another topics area and it was either such a dumb question or nobody knew so here we go. I have started praire dog shooting. My ideal shooting would be to range a dog and dial up the "dope" to drop it. I have my scope zeroed at 100 and that is where my stop is set. IF I have my BC,S bullet weight and FPS all entered correctly in my ballistics app. my thinking is that I could enter 400 yrd zero, look at impact at 100 and dial in with that info. My app says zeroed at 400 I should be 7.11 inches high at 100. So if I'm zeroed at 100 I could put in 28 clicks and be on at 400?

I have the Vortex Viper on several of my Varmint rifles and that is how mine are dialed
in. Have dope cards for all, 100 yard zero and dial away after ranging target. No
guess work. Just make sure your dope cards have all the right information.

I thought that made sense but wasn't sure. Don't know if the Vortex was a good enough scope to rely on going back and forth from zero to 400, back and forth. Easy enough to find out though. Thanks for verifying.

I have 4 of them now and they all dial well. Think that is one of the main reasons some shooters like them. The glass is good enough and they dial well. It's a good value for my dollar.
Thing is though - you got to verify. This is the best test/method I have used to verify.

The only time I ever range, dial, and shoot is when the action is so slow you want to make ever shot count. In a good dog town, the last thing I want to do is fart around ranging and dialing.

Since I'm new to this; hth did you know where zero was if no stop.
Guessing you'd keep count. But seems you could loose count.

It's very easy to loose track of where you are, when dialing up & down on your turrets, when you don't don't have some sort of "Zero-Stop" for you to have a finite place to stop at. Just my $0.02 worth....... Idaho-5R

With the viper just look at the turret. It has hash marks below the turret telling you how many revolutions off bottom you are. I just use enough slope in my rail to be at the bottom

Dog towns is why I want to dial in. I enjoy shooting and can walk a hit in pretty quick but I just want to dial and kill. It's just a challenge for me.

I honestly would not bet the farm that my scope has a zero stop. I just turn it back to zero on my dial. I don't usually get in a big hurry. I tried it once and didn't care for it.
