A crappy rainy day (at least it's not snowing) question. Why haven't any other manufacturers other than Hornady and Nosler started making 280 AI brass? I'm thinking Alpha, Bertram, Starline, Peterson, Lapua, etc. The Nosler is great but pricey. I know buy once cry once but when I switched from Lapua to Starline for my 6.5 Creedmoor I cut my brass cost almost in half.

If you wanna keep costs down and have good brass form your own from 280 Rem brass. I know some people dont like remington brass I had some older stuff that I formed myself and it works great.
If you dont wanna put rounds down your barrel do the cream of wheat method.
Depends on I guess how much your time is worth to you.

I weighed that option on the front side. I went with Nosler but I still fire form before load development and the eventual hunting load which I do with all my rifles. Fire forming from 280 Rem cases seemed to be a bit tricky so I bit the Nosler bullet.

I guess I'm hoping with insider knowledge chimes in with some breaking news. Maybe from the SHOT show:)

I have Qual-Cart, Hornady and Nosler. To me the Hornady brass is priced decent. I can usually get it for $40 per 50. BUT I do agree it would be nice for more to get involved.

@LongWalker
I hear ya! I recently had a friend who owns a gun-store here order some Nosler .280AI brass for me at HIS cost....$73.50 for 50ct box (which is somewhat of a discount). $1.47 per case is pretty steep. I steer clear of Hornady brass if/when I can....

I got it at local retailers for $65-69/box of 50. Unfortunately, the same Nosler brass in .280 Rem is only $45-49/box of 50. Supply and demand dictates how much the supplier screws the user.

I have emailed ADG a few times myself for .280AI brass.

That is why I dont walk through cabelas doors.

Cabela's is not Cabela's anymore, they are owned by Bass Pro Shops which is the rotten apple at the bottom of the barrel. As a result of this buyout, Cabela's has been decimated to the point of being useless.

There are two basic problems with this .280AI question:

The .280AI case has lost it's glow. That train has left the station. Basically, Nosler brought it to market then proceeded to screw us with rapacious pricing. This is their standard pricing plan, find the right price then double or triple it because the company name is Nosler and the consumers will pay it. :eek: They have a non-U.S. company make the brass and ship it in which also adds to the overhead. Now the bigger problem is that Nosler is having a really hard time keeping the supply line filled and it's failing at that. Even if I buy OEM quantities, I'm being told that I will wait 6 more months. This is unacceptable but they thinks it's O.K. :mad:

The overall market for the .280AI is simply not that large. With the companies already represented, there may not be enough room for another developer to join the club because their slice of the pie may be too small. Thoughts of pushing one of the other companies out of this market will probably not come to fruition. While I like ADG brass better than a couple of those in the market already, another presence may not be acceptable just yet. :(

I would buy the very best brass currently available and have a supply which will outlast the hunting rifle I shoot, which is not hard. Remington brass is good enough to use as straight .280 Remington for hunting and fireform it in the AI chamber. The pressures found at the upper end loads will be slightly lower as the factory case expands in the new, larger chamber for the AI. Handled properly, 100 cases prepped and loaded will last a hunter a lifetime. :)
