26 Nosler or 300 Win Mag

Elk
Wyoming
150 yds to 500yds
140 gr Nosler Accubond for the 26; 180 gr Nosler Accubond for the 300.
Proficiency same with either rifle out to about 250 yds. I'm a tad better with the 26 beyond 250 yds.

Which would you choose and why?

300 win mag. I have seen what what a 215 hybrid does to an elk at distance and I'm a believer. 26 will kille them fine too just really inpressed with the 300 on wapiti.

At this point in time the 300WM has killed more Elk than the 26 Nosler has seen!
300 WM all the way!

It's not close, the 300 WM all the way. For deer or antelope then the 26 nosler is just fine given you shoot it well.

Elk can be tough. And the 300 wm just plain has the ability to shoot bigger heavier bullets. So for elk I would go with the 300 wm. Welcome to the forum. Shoot safe and enjoy.

Under those criteria, get whichever you like. Honestly, if you can't kill an Elk at 500 with a 26 Nosler, it's not the cartridges fault.

If you're going elk hunting won't be a better time to use the 300, but like tony said, a 26nos will be just fine

.300 WM....but why even compare these 2? Vastly different....Perhaps a better comparison would be the 30 Nosler to .300WM ( but the COST to shoot it will still keep me shooting the WM....)

I like the way the 300wm smacks em. I don't doubt the 26 could do it, but my experience and observations have made me a firm believer in the 300.
