Well, he's been here 11 years, so I doubt it.

Guy

Well I was originally here right after this forum started so I don't really care. If he insults others like a petulant child I will treat him as such. If he treats me as a man as I am turning 69 then I will treat him in kind. I have been hunting for over 60 years all across the USA. I have hunted men and been hunted by men so I don't really care who he is. I have watched him insult and demeaning me as well as others like a tyrant as if others have to bow down to him and they do not. Is that the way this forum is run now Guy because it used to be run differently when I was a member before? I would love to have all my posts back.

Sorry you've got some beef with MtMuley - I don't know him personally, but he's been here a few months longer than I have. Folks have different personalities, sometimes guys just rub each other wrong. I think this is particularly true online, when we're just relying on the typed word. Hard to catch the nuances. Comms aren't as good as face to face.

Seems you're a veteran, me too. I'm only a few years younger than you, but yes, I understand.

Meanwhile back to wolf hunting, I honestly feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to take such a magnificent creature.

GuyM, I had no beef until he insulted me. I will treat anyone with respect but I expect the same. I am and have been hot about the WOLF RE-INTRODUCTION as I was in Casper and working in Hunter Safety Classes when they came in and said this is coming and if you don't like it tough if you resist you will be prosecuted. I personally VERY much resented that whole approach, the way we were treated and the way the whole thing was SHOVED DOWN WYOMING'S THROAT!!!

Yes I am an Army veteran,1971-1973. God Bless!

I just found this video and I find it very accurate as to my memory also:

They were in central Idaho. I mean I'm sure they were everywhere. The old knowledge is that the wolves we had were a lot smaller and more of a scavenger, not as territorial....this is bolstered by the rancher knowledge that interacted with them forever... vs the monster killers that are the Canadian. The Canadians kill everything that is within their territory so not only did they kill off the original bloodline but also with the probability of not ensuring a pure bloodline for the species we had before...
This has been a big part of this debate from the beginning.
The wolves we had and the wolves we have are the same species, that said, selective breeding happens in nature as well as purposely practiced by humans. Wolves have always been here in MT. I find it difficult to believe that a small handful of the "same" wolves could have the kind of success they've had if they were actually the "same". If they were the same as the wolves we had, the wolves we had wouldn't have needed any help, and would have flourished like the ones that were brought in. Pitbulls are technically the same species as black labs, but are clearly very different animals in both looks and behavior.

A wolf taken by fair-chase is one of North America's greater hunting trophies in my opinion.

My new 6CM Fieldcraft seems to be about perfect for my type of wolf hunting.

If someone wants to read it...the wolves in Montana were taken to numbers that did not allow a healthy breeding population prior to ww2...so no big packs or sustainable packs...that did not mean no wolves...just that they were transient and lacked numbers to be effective...

The evidence was/is there that packs from Canada (Alberta/BC) were establishing a foot hold in the 70's and began to really pick it up in the 80-90's...given another 40 years at the outside...the discussion that we are having now, would have been happening then.

The reintroduction by man, just eliminated the time it would have taken for this to happen naturally.

Grey/Timber Wolf (two names for the same primary species) has caused a lot of debate amongst biologists as to wether there are several sub species in NA or if it is more a regional variation..I try and stay out of it...but a key thing to remember is that all the wolves reintroduced came from less than a 1000 miles away and given how far a wolf pack or wolves will travel...make the claim of the "HUGE" Canadian wolves are alien and never existed in the range historically...until they we reintroduced...as bogus...it serves as great propaganda...

I don't champion the wolves, thought the reintroduction wasn't given enough consideration...but I am enough of a realist to understand based on the data, that they were on the way back with or without us...they are here..let's work out a plan for them...that won't send us careening over the cliff and cause way more problems than we have right now.

I left this alone for a few days. Is paparock mad at me? mtmuley

I don't care for the way you demean some posters when you don't agree with what they say. Rather than being diplomatic about your disagreement you are insulting and that is totally uncalled for. You say their post reflects badly on all hunters when your hostile demeaning attitude are offensive to fellow posters. Try some tact for a change. Everyone has a right to their opinion and YOU are NOT their JUDGE!

I started this thread. If you are hunting wolves, please contribute. If not, STFU. shaughn is the only voice of reason that has responded. mtmuley
