The .270 SS is a very good round. I use to own .270WSM, it's a very good round. IMO the Weatherby doesn't have enough on it to justify the expense and weight gain of a longer action.
I would gladly own another .270WSM but as reloading experience has advanced, the .270SS would be way more fun and unique at the same time., just my pennies worth

For what it's worth, I would not want a magazine on ANY hunting rifle. Let alone, a rifle for sheep/goats.
I used to be bothered by only having three cartridges in my guns, in all the times I've hunted, needing more rounds has never been a problem.
Tikkas are "in line feed". And very dependable. You will want this with any short mag you choose.

I love the 270 wsm for about 7years I shot a tikka t3 270 wsm shooting 140gr accubond and never lost a animal fro. Deer,elk and bear. Out to 600 yards. I then had a smith put a benchmark barrel #4 26" 1-9twist with a manner EH-TA stock . Shooting the 165matrix at 3000fps and that things is amazing. My friend Took his big horn sheep at 704yards one shot with it. If I was going to build one again it would be with the tikkas action and trigger. Also it fun to load up some 110ttsx at 3600fps for coyote or for my son to shoot.

In your quest for non toxic bullets, we here in California are forced to use them. The only bright side on that note is I discovered Cutting Edge Bullets about 6 years ago.

I have had 23 one shot kills in a row with them.

From 100-570 yards.

In the 270AI - about the same performance as the 270wsm, I use the125s, 130s and 140s. Your 1 in 9 barrel is a good choice. Reloader19 may be a good powder for you. They also have a 270 125gr maximus. I have shot two hogs with it. 100 and 350 yards. Both dropped immediately.

I have not had good results with the barnes. I was so disappointed in them that my quest for better bullets sent me to a small company in PA, well small 6 years ago! Now they are the ELR darlings.

I do plan to cut custom dies matched to my chamber. Those ss set ups do look pretty slick but I think it's just bringing this build too close to the same ballistic realm as my 7 mag (I know the wsm isnt that far out its self). I do want this set up to be lighter recoiling than my big 7. Which I dont think will be an issue with a quality break and good pad despite the lightweight build.

The biggest advantage of the Sherman line would be barrel life.

I want to make a quick amendment to my original post. I intend 500 yards to be a maximum range for this rifle not a minimum.
