Which 338 should I build?

Harper I am not sure magazine length but it is the same action used on my 300 Wby. I am not crazy about having this as a Wilg Cat looking more for a factory avalible brass job. WR that is why I am thinking maybe 33 Nosler.
How much will a brake dampen the kick on these bigger 338's. By that I mean what round will they compare to when braked.

If you don't want a brake, stick with 338WM. I am a big fan of the big 338s and own an Edge, but brakes are mandatory.

Given the bolt face you have I'd say 33 Nosler or 338 RUM. I love the Edge, but it requires additional attention to make it work in a standard long action. You need a Wyatt's extended box, and you need machine work to the mag well opening of the action and the bolt stop to deal with the extra long rounds. Now, I handled all of this at home with a Dremel and ended up with a wonderful rifle, but most people would shy away form this. The Nosler and RUM should not require this.

Been running these same thoughts through my head. Have a rem ultra mag action, also a crux ti long action in the safe, 28" 9.3 twist proof barrel. The big heavies require more capacity than the 33 nosler in my opinion. So it was 338 rum, or edge. The edge needs a 4" mag to run properly, the 338 rum can utilize the 3.8" box. The rum will push 270-285 Hornady eld bullets over 2900 fps with RL26. Ordered 150 pcs ADG 338 RUM brass today, had the vendor sample 20 random cases, weighing 265.7-267.1 that's most at 266.x gr, very good looking and TOUGH brass from my reading. I'll utilize the rem 700 steel action on this build as I don't need a 7# rum. With the rem action, 28" carbon sendero, and AG Composites thumbhole stock, I'll be around 8.25# prior to optics. I'm excited about this hammer! It doesnt offer much on my 300 norma, but the 338 has a great reputation for killing big bodied animals at range. Ask @Broz about it.....

I shot a 340wby since I was 20,last 8-9 338NM.My boy moved into my old gun at about 15-16.Tagged out with it he did this year.

My Jarrett with the brake feels about the same as my 3006 with 150 gr bullets. W/O the brake it's a single shot because so much snot comes out of nose I have to clean the scope.

Brass is not that hard to get for anything you want, you just have to know where to look. The standard stores here have very little. But online you can find just about anything you need. I am Canadian as well, there are good sources.

I have a 33nos, I have never seen a box of factory loaded ammo on a shelf anywhere, no biggy for me as I handload exclusively. My 33 is under 8 pounds all in, its pretty snappy to shoot with no brake. Thats considerably more recoil than most can take and shoot well, its not something you shoot all that often.

C.O. Shooter I am not really sure how easy it would be to get brass here in Canada.

Longbomber how is to shoot with a brake.
I would redo this as a Win Mag but would like a little more oomph. I am not opposed to a brake as I have one on my 270 WSM. They make a rifle loud to shoot but it is only one shot. To tell the truth I don't notice the noise when I am hunting. That said the brake will tame recoil and aid in load development so no big deal.
What length of barrel would be best with these big 338's. My thought is at least 26 as there is a lot of powder to burn in these cases. More on felt recoil with the brake would be nice as well.

You may well want to reconsider the thumbhole stock on a boomer this light. It could be rather painful to shoot.
