I usually hunt for the overall experience. I love being in the blind before the birds and squirrels start making sounds. I love watching young deer run about, and bucks chase does, and when I know there is a good buck... waiting for him.

I lost my job a month and a half ago thanks to the economy going so well... My job was eliminated because things are so cheap, the boss could buy them cheaper than he could pay me to do the job, so my entire position was eliminated.

The last 2.5 years has been bullish!t for me, when it comes to finding work. First, the economy sucked, and jobs were scarce, and nobody wanted to pay you a living wage, and now it's too good, and jobs are everywhere, and still nobody wants to pay you a living wage, because the market is saturated with jobs. You would think there would be no such thing as an economy that's "too good"... I guess that's only true if you're the business owner, and not the employee.

I went out whitetail hunting Tuesday. saw 4 different elk herds and 45 elk total, which for north idaho is a lot of elk and good sized herds. Of course during elk season I saw zero elk. I also saw 11 does/yearlings. Bucks don't seem to be rutting yet.

That's odd. I'm already seeing young bucks chasing does and mature bucks bedding does this far south. Of course we've had unusully cold weather for late oct/early nov this year and maybe that's got them confused.
 
Our rut is generally over by the time rifle season opens here in Michigan. Our deer heard is also poorly managed. We end up with a lot of doe and very few bucks.
 
I absolutely love the beauty and silence hunting with a fresh layer of snow, and even happier if it's still falling. Connecting is a bitter/sweet bonus.
Last week in Alberta. Sub-zero temps and fresh snow really got the deer moving.

You got that right! We have great genetics in michigan but dumb F's running the show and even dumber ones shooting spikes to say they got one. Way to many doe because no one thinks it's cool to shoot one but some how a spike is cause it's a buck. I can't wait till we go to one buck a year. So some of these sac faces think twice about filling a tag opening morning on a 4 point. I do my part and shoot about 20-30 doe a year and they just keep getting more

The perfect deer hunt for me is one where I see lots of critters and never pull the trigger myself...but when a new hunter pulls the trigger and connects on their first animal.

I've found that much more enjoyable these last few years, especially with deer/turkey.

Come to west TX. Plenty of money and plenty of jobs. It does get hot and miserable though.

Supply and demand my friend Michigan was real bad not to long ago now you can't find people to work so even the ****** ones have jobs and make more than they are worth. I know sometimes it hard to think of relocating lord knows it would be hard for me but sometimes it has to happen. I'm always worried about not having work so always try and add to my skill set and not owe any money so I can always make enough to get by.
Hope things pan out for you you seem like a great guy from the interactions I've had with you. So keep your head up and it will work out. Lord never gives you more than you can handle. That I can tell you.

I'm still very young in my hunting years but have really enjoyed this part of it. Heck I just enjoy the guiding part most. Some day I'll retire and own my own little ranch and guide for fun and if some money is made then great.
