What chambering would you guys recommend for a deer rifle to just point and shoot. My dad does not want to range and dial. He’d rather just zero his rifle and not touch it again. 350-400 yard max range. What would you guys recommend?

I appreciate that. I used to work at a gun shop doing the Gunsmithing and barrel break in’s. Shot a bunch of .338 Lapua rifles doing that. My groups had to be good as proof of break in to the customer so I’m good there. But you make a very valid point, shooting the 50’s definitely helped break...

Good advice!!!! I have been considering a 7SS on my switch barrel rifle, but the lack of brass bothers me.

The Edge and Lapua are both on my radar as well. I know there is no factory ammo for the edge and lapua is hard to find these days, but a .338 does have its appeal.

We are on the same wavelength. I’m leaning towards a 7mm of some flavor, but also considering the 300’s. I’ve had several rifles in the past that just wasn’t happy with and don’t want to waste the time or money on something that won’t accomplish my goals.

I completely understand the difficulty of taking shots at 1000. I will be practicing a ton with my other rifles. My main concern of this thread is rifle chamberings that are capable of making those shots. I will definitely do my part to prepare, well before ever taking a shot at an animal.
