Not really... it seems to me that, for most hunters, demonstrating an increase in their range/ability is one of the trophies, so to speak, of a successful kill.

My favorite animal to hunt as well, they can be challenging! And it's so satisfying when you can hear the hit!

I completely understand! I have a friend with a wood stock Axis (I believe) in 7mm-08. It's not a "nice" rifle at all. But it's so accurate, it's all he reaches for anymore, even if it's just to shoot groundhogs on the farm. He keeps wanting to upgrade the scope because it's not keeping up...

280 Rem for the long action. It's practically perfect in almost every way since you have a long action. 280AI is exceptional, but it may make the grandkids skittish. The 7mm-08 is better for all criteria given except the action length.

True... for the Hammer bullets. And as they get increasingly popular, it may be that the industry shifts in that direction. But for someone selecting a deer rifle, 750 yards isn't exactly the right expectation to set for either the 243 or 6mm unless they are going to be running Hammer...
