    243 powder?

I checked my data. This was in a Winchester M70 Stainless Classic Featherweight Nosler 100 gr Partition Winchester Brass CCI #200 Large Rifle primer RL-26 Worked loads up from 47.0 to 47.8 grains. Peak (mean) velocity (Oehler chrono) was 3198 FPS @ 47.8 gr. Accuracy was coming apart, maybe...

    243 powder?

I use RL26 for 243. I don’t have access to my load/chrono data at the moment. As I recall, I got the load data off the Alliant Powder website. What I recall of my load at present is: 100 gr Nosler Partition Winchester brass Federal primer I was pleased with accuracy and speed. I will try...

Adding new calibers to the gun safe

I understand what you are saying. I bought a 270 a few months ago. I have a 7mm RM, a 25-06, and two 7mm-08s. What the heck do I need a 270 for? Not a darn thing. It was a pretty rifle, I’ve never shot a 270 before, and wanted to try one.

Adding new calibers to the gun safe

For my use, I could get by with three for big game hunting 338 WM for elk and bigger 7mm RM - main deer rifle and back up for elk 25-06 - antelope and stand in for deer Of course, that isn’t all of them. There are youth/lady guns and loaner rifles, specialists, those I just wanted to try...

Adding new calibers to the gun safe

There is a lot of overlap in those calibers. That isn’t a criticism at all. We all like what we like and it’s fun to try new things. Some level of redundancy or ability to “stand-in” for another rifle is also a good thing. I am really at the point where I don’t need anymore calibers, and in...

I want a legit argument against an old trusted cartridge

Well, all the smart kids know that belt makes it obsolete and useless. You are exactly right, very good package for hunting with not much downside. Un-braked recoil may be a bit much for some. Actually, most of the 30-06 based rounds work pretty darn good as well, in the mid-range...

Has the 6.5prc peaked in interested?

Actually, I think I’d be more excited about 6.5-06 factory chambered rifles and brass. Some of the more knowledgeable posters may point out the error of my ways, but I would actually prefer it a bit more than a 25-06 or 270, but not enough to mess with a wildcat. I don’t think much of...

Has the 6.5prc peaked in interested?

I like to reload, but I don’t dial and probably wouldn’t shoot at an animal past 500-550 at the absolute furthest. I have B&C reticle on my two primary rifles (7RM & 25-06) which will take me that far. I was really excited about a 6.5 Rem Mag for a while, and then a 6.5 PRC. My thought was...

22-250 barrel length, what is to short?

A guy would want to be careful not to use varmint-type bullets (unless you are hunting varmints), but I think there are some lighter bullets that are big game capable. If you don’t shoot for top velocity, it may work for her.

22-250 barrel length, what is to short?

https://rifleshooter.com/category/barrel-length-and-velocity/ These guys tested multiple cartridges. I don’t think they did 22-250, but they did do 224 Valkyrie and 223/5.56. Not sure how that compares in case capacity to 22-250, but should be getting close. I think that ideally, I would t...

    Caliber choices

I think it depends on how much elk hunting you plan to do. For a whitetail rifle, I’d use the 7mm RM, but if the elk hunting has any regularity to it, then maybe 300 WM. If it was only elk, moose, no whitetail, I’d do 338 WM. Not that 338 can’t be used on deer or 7mm can’t be used on elk, but...

6.5creedmoor vs 7mm08 for whitetails under 350 yards

I do that with 7mm-08 and 243 as well! Nickel for the ‘08 and brass for the 243.

6.5creedmoor vs 7mm08 for whitetails under 350 yards

Really, it seems like the choice comes down to the rifles available in each cartridge as much as anything. I have Model 70s in 243 and 7mm-08, not so much because I thought they were better - the M70 just wasn’t made in 6.5CM until now. I don’t see enough difference to sell what I have to buy...

6.5creedmoor vs 7mm08 for whitetails under 350 yards

Antelopedundee, if that question was meant for me, it may be above my paygrade. If you are talking about forming 6.5 creedmoor cases, I can’t answer because the Creedmoor is not a direct descendent of the 308. I don’t know how to make Creedmoor brass If you had a 260 Rem, which is a 6.5...

6.5creedmoor vs 7mm08 for whitetails under 350 yards

I think that if the main goal is a light recoil round that can be put in a light rifle primarily used on deer or smaller game, I’d rather have the Creedmoor. Seems like it may be a more consistent performer than a 243 and a bit less recoil than 7mm-08. If adding elk or bigger things (with still...
