Tight freebore in Tikka factory barrel

Another 'hint' to those looking to by a dial caliper, get one with a dial that has only 1 "zero" on it, that only measures .100" per revolution of the needle on the dial. Some have 2 "zeros" and measure .200" per rev of the needle on the dial,,, makes them harder/more difficult to read.

Tight freebore in Tikka factory barrel

The only reloader who might need a mic that can measure 4 places to the right of the decimal point is the high end competitor shooting sanctioned BR or maybe F Class. They might sort bullets to the .0001". Even then, it would be for comparison, not for size, as true repeatability might only be...

Tight freebore in Tikka factory barrel

Few of these "reloaders" can barely use a caliper, let alone a micrometer,,,,,,,, heaven forbid and analog micrometer! Heck, many don't .know how to properly grasp a mic to use it . And digital? Don't get me started! Been using the same Starretts I bought in '74 all this time...

Well, I guess this Mauser isn't getting a new barrel....

The locking lug that meets that upper abutment is split for the ejector anyway. If the shinny area isn't set back, use it. Not ideal, but......

changing Remington barrel threads to Winchester??

Not hard to do, but also not worth the time (read cost) to re-fit a Remington barrel to a Model 70 Winchester receiver. A custom barrel (Hart, Krieger, Bartlein) ? Maybe.....

    Dehass vault #2 rifle build

You could also single point, but not to size. Use the tap for a 'finish pass'. Thread size would be 'repeatable'. The tap would follow the single pointed threads. But if you had previously made the gage........

    Dehass vault #2 rifle build

Single point. Then make a 'facing cut' while in the same set-up. Threaded hole (for the barrel shank) 90 deg. to the face. Before you make that set-up, make yourself a gage for the threaded hole. It is difficult to get a tap to start perfectly straight. The set-ups are time consuming and can...

    Rem 700 Internal Mag Box

Rem 700 ADL box attaches to the receiver with a small 4-40 slotted head screw and is considerably taller than a BDL box.

    Ream up 7mm-08 to 284win

The longer mag box thing is limited to Rem 700 and maybe Win 70 for upgrade. Wyatts Outdoors makes those boxes and followers. There's just not much aftermarket for the 77 or Browning rifles.

    Ream up 7mm-08 to 284win

WSM or RSAUM will require the proper magazine box and follower, or a d b magazine conversion. Feed rail work, if using an internal box magazine, as they are larger in diameter. A conversion only doable if it's a 700 or a maybe a Savage. We're a spendin' now!

    Ream up 7mm-08 to 284win

A competent gunsmith shouldn't do it for pennies! Rough guess, $200 to $375, just for the barrel 're-chamber'. feed work would be extra. Your 7mm/08 a short action? .284 Win best in a long action.

    Ream up 7mm-08 to 284win

Many years ago I quoted a re-chamber of a Hart barrel from 6.5mm X UM to .264 Win Mag. What a mistake! Cut it off twice (was asked to leave it as long as possible) and still badly fire cracked bore that the .264 reamer was not going to clean-up! It was like starting from "scratch" with a new...

    Ream up 7mm-08 to 284win

The barrel would need to be removed. Feed alterations would need to be done, because of the difference in case size. "Factory" barrels are generally not worth the cost re-chambering. The 'cost' should not be a 'cut and dried' numbers, much depends upon condition of the barrel as determined by...

Tikka barrel Removal - not smooth as could be, now what?

Was the front scope mount removed before attempting to remove the barrel?

    GO824 Lathe FLUSH SYSTEMS

My 15-20psi of dark threading oil & Tap Magic does a wonderful job of chip evacuation. "Velocity verses Viscosity". I don't use a pilot, so I'm getting plenty of flow. Using a pilot , even if the stem it rides on or the pilot itself is grooved for flow, makes a restriction that raises pressure...
