Hi people. Has anyone tried the Berger 245 grain bullet in a 300 Win Mag? If they have, I'd be interested to know the results, and recipe used, please. I'm in the UK, shoot with a 1 in 8 twist Remington Sendero, and mainly use Alliant RL26 powder, or Vihtavuori N565 or N570 powder.

Fair comment. I believe Vihtavuori N series powders have special additives to protect the barrel. Can't remember if I've remembered that correctly, but if so, it's swings and roundabouts.

A superb reply. I'm in the UK, so Vihtavuori is easy to get hold of. The same guy, who was wary of N570, said he'd had great success with N165 and N170. Many thanks. 👍

I use RL26 in my 300 Win Mag, for 210 and 230 grain bullets, and may try it with the new 245 grain Bergers too. Two things I've heard, but not tested for : 1. RL26 isn't stable in temperatures in the 80's. 2. N570 f**** up your barrel life. Does anyone know if either is true?

Indeed. Its outstanding, and comfortably compares with H1000 in 300 Win Mag. In 270 you can get near magnum velocities, like 3200 fps with a 150 grain bullet. I've loaded some 150 Berger bullets in my 270, combined with RL26. Due to the appealing weather we've had here, in the UK, I've not had a...
