    Thoughts on antler restrictions

I'm a Texas ranch owner. One ranch is on the Rio Grande river in the trans-Pecos region of Texas. It has white-tail deer and it has mule deer, which Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) call desert black-tail deer. Beginning last year a new 18" minimum spread regulation applied. This year it went...

    ChargeMaster scale inconsistent

For the two cartridges I load often, I use a B&M but a different electronic check scale. I can leave my two B&M tubes set for those two cartridges. I have two Redding throwers for stuff I don't load often or when I want to try different components. I never went down the automatic charge...

    Canned Deer

I cannot imagine watching that kind of "hunting" on TV either. But my blinds and feeders have another purpose. On average, 6 of 10 friends that I invite to hunt here couldn't hit the side of a barn if they weren't inside it. My grandson and his friends are the only hunters that like to walk...

Rebarreling a Weatherby Mark V 9 lug action for either 6.5 PRC or 7 PRC

"My first rifle was a 300WBY back in 86." asd9055 Sounds like the guy I got my .264winMag from, except he didn't wait 20yrs to sell it.

300prc load development in a time crunch

My grandson reloads for his 300PRC on my equipment. He had lots of trouble getting cases stuck in FL resize dies, both Redding and WIlson. We had to use a shop press to get them out. Redding replaced a die and added some advice, "get some really good case lube, this is common in 300PRC. It...

Are the Eld x bullets that bad

If you are hungry for negative nay-sayers, check the internet. I don't shoot anything I'd want to eat at over 300yds and my favorite is still Nosler partitions. either 140 or 125 in .264.

What powder does Hornady use in their Precision Hunter ammo?

Here's two pictures, 10X SEM's, of different powders. There almost 1000 on the site, some are the same powder, but different lots, like these. https://www.ilrc.ucf.edu/powders/sample_detail.php?powder_id=233 https://www.ilrc.ucf.edu/powders/sample_detail.php?powder_id=373 The dates on the...

    Mount and rings recommendations

Burris Signature dovetail 2-piece. Self aligning, don't mar the scope, come with different offset inserts so you might not need special mounts for XLR shooting. I use them on my pre-'64 westerner in 264WM with a Zeiss 56mm objective scope. Rock solid.

Remembering the Older Days of Reloading/Shooting

    I used a lot of H870&H450 in my .264WinMag. I should've bought 50# of each. Hodgdon's Reloading Data Manual #19 2nd Edition, early '60's

How critical is measuring powder to .01 grains

Agreed. I made my weights from something that couldn't accidentaly be sent downrange. And "match grade" bullets weren't common in 1959, if they existed at all..

How critical is measuring powder to .01 grains

In my early reloading days, I didn't have calibrating weights. I made "standard" weights out of a piece of brass rod trimmed to match the weight of my favorite powder loads. There was a different rod for each of the variations of bullet weight, type and powder types. I didn't know the weight...

How critical is measuring powder to .01 grains

Using some data from a Hodgdon Manual: changing the powder charge from the minimum 55.5gr to the maximum 59gr added 159 fps to the mv to a 125gr Nosler in a .264 Win Mag. That works out to 0.454fps for a change of 0.01gr. of H4831. A ballistic calculator shows the change in bullet drop at...
