25SST takes new Idaho record Bear.

So tricky to measure. You did right by not stretching the tail, however I hear you could follow the curve of the skull by pushing the tape flat to the nose, up over and around the skull to the base of the neck. Thst would probably get you 1-2 more inches on the length. What about his wingspan?

    Downloading 7PRC?

I agree with using a lighter projectile. Start her off with the lightest available bullet. Work your way up. Mono bullets and bullets like swift scirocco and nosler partition are all excellent choices when shooting lighter bullets at game. Also, get a good muzzle break. My 11 year old son shot a...

    How dry is dry enough?

When we lived in Michigan my son would put a wet sponge in his Cello to keep enough moisture in the wood to prevent cracking in the winter. Otherwise the humid summer followed my dry winter would crack the wood. Idaho doesn’t have that problem so much. Consider putting a wet sponge in your gun...

BROWNING X-BOLT LONG RANGE 300 RUM 1/8 TWIST

I’m sure that gun will flat out shoot. If you buy it consider the 230 bergers as well. My biggest gripe with browning remains the rotary design of their magazine and the fact that no alternative r after market mags are available.

TARGET BULLETS ARE NOT HUNTING BULLETS!

I’m curious. Did you get an exit on this double lung cow elk? What was the approximate impact velocity? Our 225 match didn’t exit at all. 2700 fps approximate impact velocity. 200 yard range out of a 300 PRC.

No better way t do it! And no waste like dry aging.

TARGET BULLETS ARE NOT HUNTING BULLETS!

I am too. I don’t know if I have ever gone 10 days. I shoot for 5. But as long as you keep the drain open and the ice chest tilted up (box of shotgun shells works great for this on top of another ice chest) and additional fresh ice as needed you will be happy. My Idaho November 20 buck dripping...

Disappointed with the Berger 156 grain EOL

I would say the 245 Berger is probably the 30 caliber equivalent. If you really want to use one of these bullets hunting and you want to ensure expansion, you can clean the hollow point with a welding tip cleaner as well as prep the tip by squaring off the tip (uniform the meplat) and chamfer...

    Nosler's revolutionary creation

There is brass out there. ADG brass should be available. Check with North American ammunition company. Not listed in his website but he got a huge batch in recently. https://www.northamericanammunition.com

    7mm PRC

I agree with all. Mine were over 200 FPS below advertised for both the 175 and 180 factory offerings in a ruger American go wild. I’m hoping the barrel will speed up after a couple hundred rounds but I’m doubtful it will speed up more than 100 FPS. All that being said, I’m still happy with the...

    6.5 prc elk bullet poll!

That’s too bad. I must have gotten lucky with my 300 WSM. I was easily getting 1/2 MOA with the 180 grain bullets and terminal performance was perfect. I switched last year to the 212 ELD-X after miscalling the wind drift in a 15-20 MPH wind at 600 yards. Hit a broadside deer in the butt...

    6.5 prc elk bullet poll!

Interesting comment. I gave them a try on 3 elk before I knew I wanted something tougher. 225 ELD match on deer or antelope is probably ok. But not on elk. I prefer and ELD-X or similar. Scirocco if they could buck the wind drift a bit better. For inside 500 scirocco all the way.

    6.5 prc elk bullet poll!

Inside 500 yards I love a scirocco II

    6.5 prc elk bullet poll!

At what estimated impact velocity or distance? The ELD match bullets are too soft for me for elk. Maybe ok at slow velocities but a 225 ELD match really came apart on the front shoulder of an elk at 200 yards, didn’t exit a DRT cow elk in the heart at 200 yards, and didn’t exit the back of the...

Load work up in a ar10, lr308 Re: pressure ladder

I am curious what your primary use is for the rifle? My dad and I share a DPMS LR-308 and we started with factory 168 gold medal match, which shot pretty well. We then developed a load that essentially matched the velocity and POI at 100 yards with 165 and 168 bullets which shot very tight...
