Getting a reticle level is nearly impossible .

I've never had the problem with the mount being off center, but I do always check that the vertical crosshair of the scope is aligned with the bore. It never hurts to double check. And I'm really anal about my scope alignment. I do the plumb level I described earlier to check elevation...

Experience with Hornady SST on deer?

Lungs were pretty torn up, heart was scraped but not punctured. Glad I used up my 2 tags, I don't want to have to pull another this year. Maybe I could stand to work out a little before next year, though. :D

Experience with Hornady SST on deer?

Had a runner after hitting a deer broadside with a 165 SST in 308 this Sunday. Good hit through just behind the shoulder blades, tore both lungs up but not the heart. Exit wound the size of silver dollar. Velocity at impact probably 2700 fps (Superformance at 90 yards.) Deer ran 25 yards...

Experience with Hornady SST on deer?

Took a deer today at 270 yards with the Hornady 165 SST Superformance in 308. Velocity was about 2340 fps at impact. Broadside hit, bottom of both lungs shredded, heart cut in two. I made a good shot, which I have to brag about to you all because nobody in my family cares. :D Small exit...

Hornady 165 SST vs Nosler 165 BLT Hunting

I don't know that I'd suggest a 150, and especially a 125 gn over a 165. The velocity difference is overcome around 600 m or so for 150 vs 165, as the 165 preserves more due to a better BC. And the correction is only about 0.2 mils different, not much at all. The SSTs are explosive at fast...

    Harris Bipod?

Atlas is awesome for loading the bipod. Also swivels and locks when needed. A little pricey, but worth it. I also bought the cleat feet and they are better on ground, rocks.

Getting a reticle level is nearly impossible .

Sahweet! I'm buying my lottery ticket now! No more working for me, just shooting full custom rifles on a 300 acre ranch! gun)

Getting a reticle level is nearly impossible .

I used a plumb line (just a heavy weight on a string) at about 50 yards in my backyard to align the reticle vertical line. I also leveled the bubble level I have on the scope to coordinate. I checked my scopes elevation movement with the same setup to check it was moving along the line...

    165 SST or Interbond

Interbonds are pointless for deer, IMO. More for heavier game. I used SSTs last year and bang-flop on the deer, perfect from my POV. Shoot the lungs, not the shoulders, and you shouldn't destroy too much meat. Just keep it heavy and slower; the explosive effects you read about are at higher...

    Night Vision scopes

I have a D-740 I just got from TNVC. Standard tube, the Pinnacle is only 5.56 rated. I swap it with my day scope with LaRue QD mounts. I also mount a TNVC Torch Pro under the stock. It works really well on my rifle. Unfortunately, it's over your budget at around $4000. You could give a...

    Savage .300WM Long Range Hunter

For that range, a Savage 10 FCP in 0.308 win will do nicely. I recently went down to that from a 300 WM and couldn't be happier. Much cheaper and broader range of ammo, lighter recoil and I can actually see my hits past 200 yards. I make hits at 1000 meters regularly, though of course a 300...

    308 Subsonic Hunting

To update, the EBR Thumpers shot like crap in my rifle. For now, I'm considering the Hornady Custom lite 125 SST load. It's actually quite a bit quieter in my rifle compared to full power loads, and still is greater than 1800 fps to 300 yards, so it should expand nicer while keeping the power...

230 MHT or OTM in 0.308

Thanks! The calcs actually show the 215 MHT to be really close to the 230s, though with less to dial and not much less energy. Cool, I might try those first.

230 MHT or OTM in 0.308

A little preface, I've been somewhat giddy in being successful at hitting 1000 m targets with my 0.308 and 178 BTHP Superformance ammo this past month. But where I shoot, the wind is switchy and *****y and I would like to reload anyway to save money, so I've been looking into WHAT to load...
