Looking for my first semi-auto shotgun

I tried different types of semi-auto shotguns over the years with limited results. I went to Beretta and have never been more pleased. I currently own an old Beretta A-390 ST & a Beretta 1301 Comp 24". Both are gas guns with adjustments for cast and drop at heel. The 1301 Comp. has adjustable...

    Chronograph advice

I’m having the same dilemma, MagnetoSpeed or Labradar. I don’t want to spend a lot of money and was looking at the MagnetoSpeed Sporter, but I’m concerned that the MagnetoSpeed Sporter will not work well with the rather large muzzle brake I have on the rifle I intend to use it most with.

    A Reconstructed Ruger

I enjoyed your article very much, Thanks for writing it. It's amazing what you can do with firearms that aren't ideal. I have cut barrels before and cleaned them up with files and hand reamers with very good results. I really like that you went after the stock for balance, not appearance. Mark

NEW POLL - Will your next rifle scope be first or second focal plane?

I think it comes down to personal preference and defining the use. There are many factors involved in making this decision. My most recent purchases have been FFP, but that's only because of what they are being used for.

Remington 700 extractor verses m16 style verses sako extractor

I have a Remington 700 5R Mil-spec chambered in 300 Win Mag. After the third round was fired, the bolt came back without the brass. I pushed it out with the cleaning rod, and after inspection I realized the extractor was broke. I contacted Remington and they wanted me to send them the rifle for...

    Bubble level??

After leveling a scope to a rifle, I set up a plumb line at 100 yds. or so and with the rifle clamped in my gun vise, I run the elevation turret up and down the plumb line to fine tune tracking before firing any rounds. Once satisfied that the scope is tracking plumb, I tighten down the bubble...

Choosing new gun, going father...help me

I like the 300 win mag. That is my personal preference only. Any of the calibers that you listed should do fine. I have used my brothers Rem 700 chambered in 300 win mag for many years, and finally bought one for myself last spring. After much research I went with the Rem 700 5R Milspec in 300...

Which SPR scope for yotes and SHTF?

Check out the Vortex Viper PST 2-5-10x32 ffp scope. It has parallax adjustment and many other features for $800.00. It looks like they are starting to ship from some vendors now. This is what I am looking at for my RRA LAR-8. I would really like to have the Night force 2.5-10x32 mil-dot, but I...

Need advise on Rings and Bases Please.

This last year I set up my first rifle with long range capability. The rifle I purchased is a Reminton 700 300 win mag 5R milspec. I put a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 mil/mil scope on it. I went with the Seekins 20 moa base and low rings. I used the JB Weld bedding technique for the base, and was...

Rem 700 300 win mag extractor failure

Contacted Remington today and they want me to send them the rifle for inspection and repair. I will give Remington one opportunity to make it right, then I will look to other alternatives. After reading all the reports of similar issues with similar rifles, I have no confidence Remington will be...

Rem 700 300 win mag extractor failure

Finally made my 1st trip to the range with my brand new rifle. It is a Rem 700 5R Milspec chambered in 300 win mag. It is topped with a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50. I set up a target at 50 yds. and fired the 1st round. 2" low and 1" to the right. Made scope adjustment and fired round #2. This...
