I shoot the 143 HH out of a 7saum. I took a bull fall '22 with it at 520yds. Estimate 2280fps impact velocity. The performance was excellent! The bull moved about 5 yards from where he was hit. Beautiful exit from the main part of the bullet. I could also see exits from three of the four petals...
I have two loads for all my hunting rifles too. One non-lead and one high BC cup and core for longer shots. I've been pairing Hammers and ELDMs recently. However I have yet to take them both on a hunt. I generally choose one for the hunt based on my expectations of the hunt, make sure my zero...
I shoot them out of my 7 saum at 2800 ish. Only used them on on two whitetails (smaller Coues here in AZ) and both were DRT, hit them HARD. I haven't used them on elk as I have a load with Hammer bullets for elk.
Cool, I'll come watch ;) (jk)
Let us know how it goes. I just got my 308 barrel back from being cut down to 18" and threaded so I'm about ready to start working up some new loads for it.
With that bullet and MV it looks like you only have around 1800fps impact velocity for 600yds (used JBM with 5000' elevation). Are you getting pretty good expansion at that velocity with those Barnes bullets?
For sure, I get it. I'm just looking at short range stuff with this rifle, so a good MPB with decent energy. I'll probably go with something smaller like a 130 or 125. That bullet weight seems like it would be pretty fun out of a short 308.
Thanks
I'll take a look at it thanks.
I have a 308 barrel that I'm thinking about cutting down for a suppressor, so I'm looking at options to get the best velocity I can out of it.
In a (probably vain) attempt to keep this thread on topic...has anyone tried Hammer Bullets in 308. Specifically the 151 absolute hammer. HB says that the AB line doesn't line up with conventional load data and results in much faster velocities. In fact on the web page they reference "3200fps...
I've decided that a creedmoor is really all a man needs.
Got a 22-250? replace it with a 22 creedmoor.
243 win? --> buy a 6mm creedmoor
257 bob? sell that sucker and get a 25 creedmoor
260 rem? hahaha you know the answer to that one!
270 win? well, hmmm maybe you got me there, I'm sure some...
My buddy and I each shot a coues whitetail with a 180eldm last weekend. The shots were both at 300yds. My shot was quartering away and when right through the vitals and exited the front of the off shoulder. My buddy's shot started high shoulder then went down through the vitals into the off...
I'm interested in this myself. I had been looking at splitting the difference and trying the 109gn AH. If I guy could get those going 3200 out of a relatively short barrel that would be a sweet hunting rig.
