    Sako VS Browning

I own both a Sako (in 30-06) and Browning A-bolt in (300 Win Mag). Both are solid and have plusses and minus. The A-bolt is much more accurate but how much of that is 300 WM vs 30-06 is hard to tell. Sako definitely has the better trigger. Both have some custom work done to help accurize...

    6.5mm - 25cal = .007"

I have read all the posts on this one and had to grin from ear to ear reading some of the comments, so I figured what the heck, I would give my 2 cents too. I own a custom 257AI built on a WWII Mauser action, a custom AR variant of a 6.5 Creed, and an off the shelf 260 Rem carbine. All 3...

Getting in mountain shape with no mountains around?

Having been on high mountain hunts I will give you this as best advice. Train a lot running bleachers, stairs, and other structures with a back pack. The next is go in as far in advance as you can and get acclimatized to the thinner air. My first alpine hunt, I was 32 years old, in the...

    Sako 85 Longrange .338lm Eliminator3 RFI

First off, I have lived and hunted in Europe for over 15 years. Let me start by saying that as far as hunting goes there is very little terrain suited for long range hunting that I have run into. The longest shot I pulled in Europe was about 600 mtrs. I also own a 338 Lapua and choose not...

    rebarreling a mauser

I have a WWII 8MM Mauser that I rebarreled and customized. I did it in a 257 AI. The barrel is a number 8 from ER Shaw who also installed it and trued the receiver. They did a fantastic job. A German gunsmith redid my bolt handle and I had him install a European style double set trigger...

$1000 or less Hunting scope advice for Rem 700 30.06

I own dozens of scopes from NF and high end European ones to low end Weavers. For under a $1000, I like the Vortex Viper PST. Still happy with my Leopold too in the $600-$1000 price range.

a little help with a 338 Lapua reloading issue

Thanks this helps. Also the IMR 4350 which I like in my other loads and found very accurate starts about the same as in other manuals. The RETUMBO is way lower so maybe I am hot. I think I will also polish the chamber just to make sure there are no burrs.

a little help with a 338 Lapua reloading issue

did not chrono as of yet. On my list of things to do. I would have thought a hot round would have given me more case expansion though.

a little help with a 338 Lapua reloading issue

I just tried it and although a bit tight I can. The neck is obviously expanding when the bullet leaves the chamber. Interesting though the neck is still within the case specs noted in the reloading manual and just like .004 over factory load.

a little help with a 338 Lapua reloading issue

To start with I have been reloading for over 30 years and never ran into the issue I am having before. I have a Savage 110 Elite Precision in 338 Laupa Mag. Any size factory loads load, shoot, and cycle out the empty just fine. When I try any reload it load easily and seats fine in the...

    Low recoil deer caliber

I love my 257 AI and my 260 REM in a featherweight carbine size. Both are very accurate, light weight and low recoil. Both are also deadly on even large deer like northern whitetail and mulies

.375/.338 Lapua Magnum Improved - Load Data

My guides swore by the 416 Lott. On cape the range is usually shorter than plains game so no real need for 500yd plus caliber. I personally wanted a big bullet still leaving me with a shoulder after the shot

.375/.338 Lapua Magnum Improved - Load Data

What are you hunting and where? When I went 270 was the preferred plains game round with 300wm for kudu and gemsbuck oryx. Ammo is expensive there so the guides love the additional tip of my leftover rounds.
