Caliber combination for prairie dog hunting?

I’m no expert, but I think part of the reason for multiple rifles is to allow for barrel cooling time…

Whats the cartridge you LOVE to HATE?

No reason you can’t love to hate a cartridge you own… I’ve got a bit of that with the 6.5 CM. I own two at the moment - and it’s a great round - but it’s not quite as awesome as the hype. On the other hand, not even 50 BMG loaded with depleted uranium can do the things that the 6.5 CM of the...

    10mm handgun

I listened to this as a podcast. Very informative interview with Phil Shoemaker by Ron Spomer. Phil’s been guiding brown bear hunts for 40 years so has some relevant experience.

How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

By myself? Right beside the truck lol. Did a bull moose this year with my brother in law. My uncle and my cousin came along and helped too. Still was a big job. If I had to go alone, I would, but it would definitely impact where and in what terrain I took an elk or a moose. Working on...

    10mm handgun

115 9 mm is definitely suboptimum. I think a 200 gr hard cast 10mm is a significant upgrade. Even a 147 gr controlled expansion 9 mm has better sectional density and penetration. I am in the ‘whatever you will carry constantly and be proficient with is the best option’ camp, but if I was...

    10mm handgun

Well, beware the man with one gun - but pity him too! I’m blessed to have a number of firearms to enjoy. It’s like golfing, gotta use the right ‘club’. 223 or 6.5 Grendel are my choices for song dogs and all of my firearms deserve some love. Safe queens are just neglected guns IMO.

    10mm handgun

But I don't want to carry my 12 g everywhere and hunt coyotes with my 375 H&H!!! :( 28 pages for a thread started in February - wow! What did the OP end up with anyhow??

    Any Gunwerks Clymer Owners?

Have my 6.5 PRC Clymr in hand. Points like a dream, seems to be the perfect weight to carry all day while not too light to remain steady while shooting. Have to get my scope mounted and get it to the range, but first impression - I love it!

    Any Gunwerks Clymer Owners?

Well, bought my Clymr on Friday. 6.5 PRC Ti with the Forest green stock. Have a Nightforce NXS compact 2.5-10x40 for it with a G7 reticle. Should be right around 7 lbs and be deadly out to 5/600 yds. For everything bigger than deer or further, I’ve got a Nexus in 300 PRC with more...

How Much energy is too little?

Is that high muzzle velocity or kinetic energy? 😂

    What would you do?

**** - forgot the 7 saum and 280 AI. If you want a lighter long range rifle these two are top choices.

    What would you do?

7 prc, 300 prc, 300 win mag would be my top 3 in no particular order. 28, 30 Nosler, 7 rem mag, 300 and 338 RUM would be other possibilities for long range hunting including elk. My current long range gun is a 300 prc which replaced a 7 Rem Mag. FWIW; 1000 yds on game is a long, long, long...
