I get almost identical velocities with H1000 or Retumbo. 31" barrel , 300 grain AB, Nosler custom brass, CCI mag primer, 89 grains of either and 2810 fps. I feel Retumbo might group slightly better but they are very close.
I tried both powders and preferred retumbo. 90 grn, CCI primer, Nosler brass, 300 gr AB, SMK, or Berger. I'm now getting 2830 from 30 1/2 inch tube. The Sierra book goes way higher than this but I can't in my rifle.
Hi, I'm a newbie. I'm shooting a 338 RUM all customed assembled with a 30.5 inch barrel. With 90 grns of Retumbo and a 300smk I get 2805 fps. Almost identical with a Nosler 300ab. The Nosler might be more accurate at 600 yds. Now I got a box of 300 bergers and the velocity with the same load...
I was wondering if the build up inside the case effects accuracy and decided to go with a sonic cleaner. It was cheap. The guy's at an ammunition manufacturer told me to get a small parts cleaner from Harbor Freight. Looks just like many of the reloading companies offerings. Water, vinegar and...
I bought one of the cheap Simmons spotting scopes and am not impressed. I can see more of the holes in my target at 600 with my 32x Burris rifle scope than with the 60 x Simmons. The 60x makes things very big but big does not give a qualtiy view.
This is not on a .308 but a .338. It had a tight standard reamer used on it and still when you neck turn down your brass to anywhere near even, say .125" the you have .006 or .007 neck clearance which is pretty sloppy and also leaves you with almost no neck tension with standard dies. The reason...
I have also loaded H1000 at the same grains as retumbo and chronnied only a few fps different. Sierra's new book says I'm about 3 or 4 grains short of their suggested max loads. I always shoot about 150 fps faster on average depending on the bullett and load than the book does. I think my chrony...
MY favorite load is 90 grns of retumbo and a 300 smk @ 2820 fps. That's out of a Krieger 30 1/2 br barrel, 1-9.35 twist. I've slowed it down and went faster but this shoots the best. 20lbs and a brake make it kick like a .243 only slower. I've shot this brass 10 times and it's hammerred, the...
I have a 338 Rum with what I am told is a 31" Krieger in 9.35. Average group is about .4 with the best at .17 and several in the .2's. Gun has a lot of work done to it.
