Re-barrel 7 Rem Mag to .338 for bear hunt?

The trip was great and I got a nice bear. After much reading and a few conversations with my outfitter I went with a 375H&H, complete new custom build (see separate thread). I shot the bear three times at 165 yards with a 300 grain A-frame, bear only made it 10 yards before collapsing.The...

Brown bear hunt on the Alaska Peninsula October 2021

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I wrote the story while stuck in the tent for two days. This trip was by far my biggest adventure and I will have lasting memories. With that said my next hunting trip will be much more relaxing, maybe Dove hunting.....

Brown bear hunt on the Alaska Peninsula October 2021

October 14th Day starts as normal with us leaving the tent at first light. As with every morning when we get closer to the beach (only 200 yards from the tent) Mike uses his binoculars to take a quick look around before we move to the lookout. But this time is different, he says "I see a bear"...

Brown bear hunt on the Alaska Peninsula October 2021

October 8th Got to the ridge and saw one bear in the delta, Mike stated it was a small sow so we just kept looking. The game plan was to sit at the glassing spot every day until we see a shooter bear. If you walk around too much you just leave human scent everywhere and the bears will just...

Brown bear hunt on the Alaska Peninsula October 2021

October 6th We get up at 7 (doesn't get light till 830), have some coffee and breakfast. At this point Mike tells me "We can't go to the creek and look for bears". I was bummed and asked him "why not"? He said, "the salmon creek is on the other side of the ridge, we need to stay out, going in...

Brown bear hunt on the Alaska Peninsula October 2021

October 3rd My alarm goes off at 3:45 am. I live in Portland Oregon and I board a fight at 630am leaving for Anchorage Alaska. Let's back up a little. I never really thought I would be going on a Brown bear hunt, I felt they were too expensive and low success rate. About 6 months ago I was...

375 Dangerous game build is done!!!!

Just for the record. The only reason I got this bear is i had a very accomplished guide. He found the bear in very low light conditions. Then he wouldn't let me shoot until we were under 200 yards and would be in a good position for a follow up. He really gets 90% of the credit, but I get 10%...

375 Dangerous game build is done!!!!

This rifle feeds great and my guide had no concerns. First shot was through the heart. My two follow up shots hit him before he went down, as I cycled the gun as fast as I could. I think what did help is I practiced dry firing and cycling the action almost everyday for a month before this hunt.

    Defiance tenacity question

A dremel tool and a little touch up paint fixes this issue. Just finished a Tenacity build and was very happy with this action!!!

375 Dangerous game build is done!!!!

Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas, really turned out to be a well balanced safari style weapon. Went with a nitride Defiance action, Brux #5 barrel cut to 22.5", McMillan stock, Trigger Tech set to 3lbs. Things got interesting with the muzzle brake as I wanted 3/4-24 threads and the...
