ZCO is legit magical to look through. Like a big screen HD TV right next to your eye.
I still chose the March because it's a much smaller package for hunting, their FFP reticle is easier to see on lower magnifications, and everything else is still really good about it.
All that said... now I...
Is it just a factory gun with a carbon barrel? Or a proof, benchmark or bartlein installed by a gunsmith?
EIther way it sounds like junk. But I was just curious because I haven't had a carbon shoot that bad. But they were all aftermarket carbons.
Yeah I’m not saying you had to mess with the tips. But they were still terribly inconsistent compared to about every other bullet on the market. Which never made sense to me. Other people figured out how to make the tips consistent, but not Berger (arguably the best bullet manufacturer)? Drove...
So I just got in a lot of 7mm 180 Hybrids. I opened them up to load a few rounds for testing…. These things look immaculate! I’ve never seen such consistent tips from Berger before. Their terribly crooked and copper filed tips used to be my pet peeve haha.
I know one of their employees was on...
Definitely!
Yeah! I’ve been wanting to get away from the steep bottom toe angles for a little while now. So this is perfect!
Haha oh I don’t think I’ll be selling it! I’ll probably just sell the Mountaineer LR when it shows up honestly. I don’t really see any benefit it would have over this...
My wound channels on animals with ELDM’s look exactly like the FBI Gel test results Hornady has posted on their law enforcement page. I think a calibrated gel test is an excellent comparison.
So I lied about not changing the rifle up before hunting season haha.
I’m going to have @Barehandlineman11 bed the action in this McMillan Nimrod stock to test out, courtesy of @Elk Hunter 338. It seems like an excellent design. I think I’m going to like it a lot! And then switch to a 24” Rem...
I think that is always in the back of my mind as well. But I do trust a lot of the info I've seen from them with people using them in the field. I don't think I'd hesitate to shoot a buck, keeping it above 2400fps impact just in case. Which in this instance would be 1000 yards at hunting elevations.
Went and shot more McGuire 160 Copper Rose.
Just loaded up the same combo that I tested in my old barrel.
90gr. N570 with a COAL of 3.609”.
This was only over 6 shots when I took the picture. But looking good.
I shot 2 foulers (clean barrel) out of the group. Then a 5 shot zero.
Then...
Mine was about 5 yards with a 28 Nosler on a small mule deer. Still-hunting through some timber during a major wind storm. All his senses were in shambles I’m sure. I didn’t bump him or anything. Unslung my rifle and shot him almost point blank while he was still feeding.
300 NMI is freaking awesome dude. But legitimately crunching the numbers, the 180 ELDM or 190 A-tip shot at top speeds are ballistically better than anything in the 300 NMI out beyond hunting distances and 20% less recoil. So I’m running it. And they seem to be really good killers.
300 NMI...
