    Bullet for .308

For longer range target, I have had good luck with the Nosler 168 grain Custom Competition. For deer sized game the Nosler ballistic tips have served me well.

Let see the 2023 spring bear success

Grandson and I had a great trip to New Brunswick a few weeks back. His first Blackie. He was using Papa's Marlin Cowboy in 45/70, became his gun at the close of the hunt. A week hunting - fishing with my Grandson,,, I am blessed beyond words!!!

What is the best tasting deer species

Whatever my beautiful wife of 50 years puts in black iron skillet with olive oil & butter and a shot of bourbon to finish. Sometimes with a few mushrooms and onions, and homemade chewy french rolls for sopping!

    Most accurate non custom

Savage, has served me well. Own a few and with a little work and load development, this is a typical 100 yd - 5 shot grouping. Cold bore shot at 2 o'clock,,, or more likely operator error?

A big welcome from northern Maryland! Sounds like you have had some great experiences. Good luck drawing your elk tag for this falls Wyoming hunt! The H4350-ELDX load will work fine. Once you have a good load, It's all about the shot! Hit em in the heart - lungs with a quality bullet and they go...

    800 yard rifle

Ditto on what Rum Man said above. Practice, and dedication is the key. The 300 win mag is a great cartridge, and will do everything you are asking of it. The Ballistics of shooting are pretty well defined. X velocity - specific BC bullet - in a know environment, will travel a well known path...

    Mountain rifle

Welcome kameron, I think you are on the right track with a 7mm. It's proven to harvest elk, with good shot placement at reasonable - long distances. (700-800 yds +-) My elk rifle is a Savage 111 Long Range Hunter, 7mm Rem Mag. I reload and run 160 gr Accubonds at 3000fps = 1" moa or less, all...

    My first custom rifle

    1) How far do you want to reach out? ( Be realistic. There is quite a bit involved in "reaching out" for a humane kill.) A 30-06 with the correct load can still have 1250-1300 ft-lbs of energy at 600+ yds. Put a good quality expanding hunting bullet in to the lung - heart of your target and it...

Need help buying my 1st scope. Which one do I get?

You likely have the ability to shoot 1000+ yds. Just takes a little practice and some planning. Find a good load - ammunition, that works with the gun. The 300WSM is capable of 1000+ yds. Run the numbers through a "quality" ballistics calculator, and you can develop the required skills to...

    .338 Lupua

Running a factory Savage 110 FCP with "torqued" HS stock. 100 yd grouping. (5th shot - flyer is operator error.) 88.7 gr H1000, 300 gr Nosler CC, COAL 3.681", Winchester LRM primer, = 2750fpm. 300 gr Berger OTM will provide the same. 285 gr Hornady, will provide similar with 89.2 gr of H1000.
