Try the Burris XTR 5x25x50 scope. You can find it on sale through optics planet and falls way cheaper than your price goal. Awesome clarity and tracks great.
I built a 27 Nosler. It did it's job well this year in New Zealand. Spitting 175 Sierra's out at 3100 fps. Excellent groups out to 1000 yards. Tac driver.
I use the 300 grn Berger for my 338 Lapua. Awesome accuracy and great BC. That round loves heavy bullets, especially with a 29 inch pole. The weight helps a lot also.
6.5 CM and 7STW for me. Excellent accuracy. Now it's looking to add the 27 Nosler on to this group. Looking good at grouping well at 200 yards. Just under 3/4 for a 3 shot group.
I'd wait to see where your eye and cheek rest feel comfortable and order the correct height for that scope. Everyone is different with cheek to eye measurement, otherwise you'll be trying to get your eye to get a clear view through that scope, when that moment of a life time comes by.
I would agree with everyone, give Berger a call and they will get to the bottom of this situation. I like a lot of different companies, but I wouldn't criticize them before I talked with them if I had any problems with their products.
Believe me they will listen to your concern.
