    Quick load vs pressure signs

I've used Quick Load for years. It is a great program and has many uses. Getting accurate pressure info is NOT one of the uses.

    Wyoming grizzly regulation

I have personally seen grizzly in the Blue Mtns of Washington state. I could see Oregon at the same time I was watching the bear (a beautifufl spun gold female I estimated at 600 pounds) so there isn't much doubt that you have them in Oregon too. This bear was making her rounds and her sign...

Temperature Sensitivity of Alliant Reloder 26

Rhovee - I found your comment interesting; RL-26 versus H1000. I would say that neither powder is "better". They are very different powders and both have their uses depending on what you are trying to accomplish. RL-26 will provide significantly higher velocity than H1000 but H1000 is more...

Temperature Sensitivity of Alliant Reloder 26

JE - you lumped RL16/23 with RL 26 but only the first two are temp stable per Alliant who imports them. RL 16 and RL 23 are manufactured by Bofors in Sweden using a process that yields great temp stability. RL 26 along with RL 33, RL 50 and RL 17 are made by Nitrochemie in Switzerland using a...

    178 gr eld-x in 30-06

I've got the 178 ELD-Xs shooting pretty good in my 06. It is a Sako Finnbear I bought in 1968. I was a kid back then and thought it was fun to shoot ground squirrels with Speer 130 gr hollow points. A few too many of those and it was subsequently rebarreled with a 26" Krieger bull sporter...

Barnes TTSX Performance on Elk (photos)

Got a buddy who shot a couple bull moose (this past season and the one before that) with a 30-06 running the 125 grain TTSX. Both one shot kills. The 210 TTSX out of another buddies 338 RUM hammered a nice 6X6 bull elk from 348 yards - it went 20 yards and piled up. Same thing happened with a...

Savage rifles ... the most accurate out-of-the-box ?

I've got a bunch of Savages and a buddy of mine has a few more. Between us we also have a few full custom rifles built on M70, Rem 700 actions. All of them will shoot 1/4 MOA or better as J. E. Custom was saying. The real secret though is what it costs to get them to do that. Those full...

    Nosler incompetence??

And the AB Long Ranges are difficult to work with as well. I've not gotten any of them to shoot whereas Bergers always work.

    7rum....thinking of changing...

Per Nosler's lastest handbook the 28 Nosler will push the 168 gr pill you mentioned to 3,238 fps using 89.0 grains of RL-33. That is way faster with 2 grains less powder - and it fits in a standard rather than magnum action. It is what the 7mm RUM should have been to start with.

    CED M2 Chronograph?

Sevy A couple more points - today after I was done at the rifle range I chronoed several pistols including a 1911 style 45 Auto. I'm thinking Magnetospeed would have issues with that gun. CED - no problem. Also the CED is not sensitive to ambient lighting conditions.

    CED M2 Chronograph?

I have the CED M2 also. Used it for many years until I bought the Labradar. The CED works just fine (if you use a laser boresighter to align it). It is one of a few optical chronos that actually work. The Magneto speed WILL change POI - or not. The unknown there is the problem. Also, if you...

    Wyoming grizzly regulation

You get to kill grizzlies! Count yourself lucky. Here in Washington the tree huggers want to add more grizzly by bringing them back into the Cascades. Eastern Washington already has them from Canada to Oregon. They just don't get it - grizzly have been known to kill a person or two on...

    Handgun for hunting elk ?

While a great choice for elk there is one caveat with the 460 S&W - it is basically a slightly shortened 444 Marlin - in a pistol. Recoil is brutal. I can do 44 Mag but the 460 is out of my league. A buddy of mine has the 460 and all the closer I want to get to that is watching him shoot it.

    IMR 7977 vs H1000 vs RL26

I find it a bit odd that you would pick those 3 powders since both IMR7977 and H1000 are known to be very temp stable though somewhat detuned and RL-26, while always giving top performance in just about everything will drift moderately with temperature change. If you are going for maximum...

    Handgun for hunting elk ?

I've hunted with a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 mag with 2X Leupold. With the slightly longer cylinder in that gun I figured a way to run 265 gr FTX bullets without cutting down the case. They barely fit if you use a normal crimp. Was able to crank them up to 1,400 fps with 21.8 grains of W296...
