If you can't afford a March 1-8x24 (FFP) or 1-10x24 (SFP) then you may want to consider a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x32 (FFP). If you opt for a few more ounces, go with a Bushnell LRHS 3-12x44 (FFP). It's not March glass but it's much better than the Vortex PST.
Thanks for the comparison from someone owning all of the above scopes. It helps put things in perspective for someone who doesn't have an opportunity to look at all these different glasses side by side.
I think it would be great if NF offered a 3-15x42 or 4-16x42 light weight yet compact hunting scope as you've suggested. 10x is okay but a little more magnification on a compact "budget friendly" scope would be a great addition. I doubt it would happen though. The higher mag SHV with 56mm...
