The DWR finish on most new gear is worth it. Goretex or other waterproof/breathable membranes are worth it. I was cleaning up leaves...

One thing I find to be very good as well are the Lycra Sport skin diving layers. Nylon, thin, light, comfortable and they keep me warm.
