just posted this on a specific post in the sheep forum but it gets to the point of the post.

I try to do a sheep hunt every summer and i have found that by far the best way to train for a sheep hunt is to hike with actual real weight on your back. All the cardio in the world cant prepare you for the extra weight and terrain. best thing i got was the outdoorsmans pack with a weight post...
I have had a lot of luck on whitetail with the 140 ELD-M out of the CM. Either me or friends with the same setup in some areas where culling is necessary so quite a bit of volume we have never experienced an issue. Furthest run was 45 yards. Most shots for heart/lung out to 400, i like it better...
Youre getting some really good advice. at Medium ranges like 5-600yds the extra BC isnt going to get you all that much from a proven 1/4" load. Build your drop chart and practice. Assuming youre diailing in your drops a few extra clicks really wont change much. I rather have a proven 1/4 MOA...
and yes i know that's a bold statement, but since i view barrels as a component to be replaced when needed ill stand by it. Not to say i don't love my 6.5x284, Creedmoor, 260s, 6.5 wssms and 6,5 x 47 also....
Great thanks. Let us know how you do with RL-26 or others as they come up. I have become a huge fan of the 6.5WSM and to me for my purposes its the best of the 6.5s
While i am pretty impressed with the velocities i am getting from H-1000 wint eh 6.5WSM in both rifle and XP handgun format, i am not above trying to squeeze some more out of it. with the newer powders would you be willing to post some starting loads (and perhaps max) and their velocities so...
I have 3 6.5 wsms 2 in an xp one in a rifle. I find h-1000 best with all of them each shoots a different bullet from 142 SMK 140 vld and 140 amal all with 215Ms great round.
One of the best if not the bullets out there in my humble opinion. I can always get them to shoot as well or better than anything else. Very forgiving to load for and devastating on deer sized game.
I have a similar problem/issue with a 284 that when packed tot he rim with H4831SC in a very compressed load that the book says i should be getting 2900 out of with 140 accubonds i am getting closer to 2630. This was close to a book max load but i literally was into the neck with the powder...
Cost and versatility. The turret becomes obsolete if you change the load or put the scope on another gun. I also find that for long range the increments get so small that it's though to dial every distance as you usually see only 100 yard increments. I never got what was so hard or time...
