Now that hunting season is done I have time to reflect on this project. I used this rifle for all my backcountry bear trips 3 total. This setup is the best rifle I could hope for in a encore platform excluding the caliber don't get me wrong the 35 Whelen AI is a great cartridge and I will use...
I know its been awhile since I gave a update to this project so here is the latest.
The first prototype stock had a 13.5" LOP with the but pad I built and the rise in stock profile at top prevented me from getting a clear view through scope so I remade the stock 3" shorter also added 3 rings on...
Toecutter It has been fun and frustrating trying to come up with ideas that are
lt wt, practical and mechanically sound I'm still not 100% satisfied with the bracket on top but its almost what I want. I went out on an overnight trip last week end and the stock fits perfectly in my side water...
I would also throw in a few more rounds of ammo look at as part of your survival plan and instead of the pillow you already have a stuff sack fill it with your clothes and jacket.
I posted this over in the handgun forum but really belongs here though this could still be a handgun without the brake and stock on it. This encore is a
Bullberry 35 Whelen AI, 16 1/4" barrel, T5 3/8" Aluminum stock, aircraft aluminum 6 screw base / rings and a 2-7x28 leupold compact scope...
How long are you going for? Looks like you have way too much stuff I would only have 1 complete set of clothes for the worst weather + extra socks and shorts use nylon clothing that will dry out in your sleeping bag at night also loose the pistol. just my opinion.
I know this is a handgun forum but it used to be one and could be without the brake. final work 99.9% done just have to decide if stock end have a downward curl or just cutoff clean and buff out plates at bottom of grip. final weight is 6#10oz could loose another 9.7oz with bipod. I would have...
OK since no one had and recomendations or ideas I decided to try some ideas of my own. Now this is a work in progress I have not come up with a solution for the bottom grip mount but will finish in the next couple of days. Current configiration is
Bullberry 35 Whelen imp 16 1/4" bbl scope...
I'm considering a encore rifle build for backpacking with a barrel length of 16-20", med wt contour in 6.5x284 AI. does anyone make a ultra light stock for the encore that would help keep the wt down?
I have to make corrections to the above post as I stated the second bear had no exit wound WELL I got the hide back from the taxidermist and guess what!
Yes an exit wound pin hole in 1/2" hole out. There was no blood whatsoever, no hair either I think the fat just sealed it up so the 180...
Not sure if anyone is still following this thread but this is just my experience. I shoot a TC encore in 308AI 15" barrel Hornady 180gr fb @ 2450 fps. First bear I shot at 75yds hit left shoulder out behind right shoulder absolutely lights out. Second bear 35-40 yards hit right shoulder...
If your Burris scope is a low power scope that is why every Burris pistol scope I own has critical eye relief these are high power pistol scopes. 7X, 3-9x32 and 3 2-7x32 distance of eye from scope and position (left right up and down from center are all very critical. These are all on long range...
Kind of a late reply but I was looking for a reasonably priced/budget scope for my Cetme 308 last year and found the Kaspa 3.5-12x44 il. TBX with locking turrets and side focus for 168 bucks it is a huge looking scope at 13"long and a bit heavy the eye relief is very critical similar to my...
