Good to see you on here.
ELR is a most interesting topic and I'm glad Len allowed it to happen. I tried six years ago to have it on this site but back then I guess the interest wasen't there as it is today.
With all the new cartridges coming along plus the many different high BC...
That's still very good shooting even if it was your home range set-up. I'm sure you could duplacate it again.
We did alot of ELR (in excess of 1250 to 1700 yards) woodchuck hunting and also shot in all the 1000 yad matches at Williamsport before our Colorado hunts. Both senarios help the...
That's very good shooting-8" group at a mile. What caliber, bullet and speed were you shooting at the 10" steel?
Keep in mind, with accuracy like that at a mile and if you have enough remaining energy left, you most certainly could kill an animal at that range. It's always te shooters...
To Augustus or anyone else in doubt of long shots.
I'm not here to argue about shooting at targets or animals or the distance the kills have been made. I'm just stating facts as to what my hunting buddies and I have done in past years. If you cant comprehend the consept of how we do it, I...

Have for sale a 338/416 Imp JK.
This rifle is an outstanding bench or longrange rifle. Work was done by Howard Wolfe and Joe Kostresky who are well known longrange gunsmiths at Williamsport.
It has a Geskie custom action, Lilja 32" fluted barrel (1.450" diameter) barrel blocked, Vais Muzzle...

I feel exactly the same as Boyd feels and others here have also expressed the same feelings since the format changed.
I have been on LR hunting since the beginning 3 years ago and "if" I have helped anyone along the way I am very satisfied with that. That's the "only" reason I came on...
I somewhat agree with your thoughts on the longer yardage kills on animals if your trying for a first round out of the barrel shot.
That's exactly why we take a spotter shot first (away from the animal and at the same range) to make all our final scope corrctions and then kill the animal on...
Sorry to hear you have decided to eleminate the Ultra Longrange section.
I guess it's OK to everyone in the anti-hunting ranks to keep all shots "under" 700 or 800 yards?
What is the acceptable yardage range that don't offend others and give our sport a bad name?

As per the original question of "Does belts effect accuracy"?
The answer is no if you look at the records held with the belted cartridges.
Now over time, there may be a change to that but, for now, the record still stands as the "smallest" 10 shot group ever fired was with a belted case...
In 1000 yhard competitions where 10 shots are fired for record and 5 to 10 sighter shots were fired first, the barrels do get extremely hot. This is especially true in the 90 degree heat and dosen't matter if the shots are fired fast or slow. The barrel still heats up till it will burn the hand...
Just food for thought fellows.
A "belted" 300 weatherby Imp case holds the ten shot heavy gun World Record of 3.151" at the Williamsport 1000 yard club.
As mentioned, there are lots of really good brass to be had, in the belted line.
I believe the military (Army) still uses the
300 Win mag...
