I still use one of the heavy Herters C presses, adapted to standard shell holders, various Herters dies, but no bullets. Do have a Herters coffee mug and some other non shooting stuff, including their books. Interesting reading, too.
Last three were:
Winchester 1985 SRC. 30-40
Marlin 1895
Savage 99. .250-3000
Why? Because I am old, turn 79 next month. Kids aren’t real interested, except one and he is in Kuwait and expects to be there 5 years as a contractor. I would rather sell them to someone interested in lever guns...
Maybe because I am older than dirt, but I still like the stadia line scopes of the 60s. Have several mounted, Redfields, Bushnells and Tascos (made in Japan). Plus 2 of the old Herters scopes with the circle reticle to compare distance.
I ran a P.I. Firm in California for a number of years, both doing investigations and providing executive protection. You better believe I got waivers. IIRC, you can write off equipment and other expenses such as car mileage associated with your business, going to seminars and an annual...
Late to this game…if’n I was to take a 19th century breechloader, single shot type, I would be looking to use a contemporary lead bullet. Lee makes a 500 grain flat point gas check bullet and used to make a copy of the trapdoor 500 grain bullet. You’re not talking long distance, ala buffalo...
The Lee Dot was installed in a lot of high end scopes in the late 50s till the early 70s, if I recall correctly, although usually at the center of a fine crosshair. Might want to check EBay.
When in the Nam, I got one of the first laser rangefinders for artillery usage. They put my team out as far out as possible, and although we could range out to 30 kilometers, most of our kills were 4-8 kilometers in the Dodge City FreeFire Zone. The concept of long range, although not as long...
Earthquake? In late 80s I was heading north from L.A. late one night and decided to catch some shuteye in a roadside rest in the Tejon Pass. Bout an hour in my car started rocking violently. Looked all around but nothing there. Back to sleep when it happened again. Decided enough was enough...
When you get down to it, any AR platform is a switch barrel, or switch upper, rifle. I know the thread is about bolt guns, but think about how much easier to change an upper is. My MSR has 5.56 and 6.8 uppers and I have a hankering for a 224 upper, just because.
Just checking to see if any of you gents out there have ever had this ankle surgery. I have chronic pain in the ankle, after two failed lesser surgeries. From what I gather, the foot can still on the x and y axes, but will no longer yaw, I.e. if I step on a large rock, my foot will not bend...
I melted all my wheel weights down to usable bars in my furnace. Like little gold bars all stacked up. they are usable as is for average loads, but 30 years ago I bought up linotype when all the printers were selling it off. Add that and you get a very hard bullet. Somewhere I scored some...
