Looking to book a hog hunt

Suggestion from experience. I have thermal and my son has NV scopes. I have used the thermal for years, but my 2 sons and I have pretty much decided that for 50 to 100 yard shots, a good regular scope with illuminated reticle or a red dot, combined with a good green hunting flashlight mounted to...

Like hunting subsonic suppressed? Here’s what is sounds like down range.

As mentioned before, tactical reticles are a BIG plus ( I consider them a necessity) for shooting subsonic at varying ranges. So is a rangefinder if you don't already know the ranges. I use SWFA or Sightron STAC with MOA5 reticle. The Christmas tree reticles are way too busy for me.

Like hunting subsonic suppressed? Here’s what is sounds like down range.

I can't speak to AR loads for 300 BLK, but my quietest load for my bolt rifle was using Unique powder with Hornady 190 Subx. I spent a lot of time and components working up that load but realized that the "whop" of that 190 grain slapping pork will scatter pigs as much as a louder report from...

    Thinning the herd

I started that years ago. Gave away 6 rifles last year to grandkids. Good thing I did that before the boating accident.

Rifles bought but haven’t shot yet. What ya got!

Before the boating accident, I had a Beretta 20 gauge that we inherited from my wife's aunt that I don't think had ever been shot. I think she bought it new in 1974.

    Stock with adjustable cheek riser

I've been through this dilemma with several rifles. It all started when I went to 30mm tubes and large objective lenses, so if you really don't need an objective over 42mm or the 30 mm tube, save yourself a lot of grief and use the 1" scopes with lower rings. That said, I tried all kinds of...

    Here they come again 😏

I have 2 thermals and a can. I'm getting to where I use the thermals as hand held scanners to locate the critters, then use a green hunting light with a red dot or regular scope with illuminated reticle for shooting, especially if the expected ranges are anywhere close to 100 yds or less. I have...

    Here they come again 😏

So has TX been working on some kind of poison. The problem is making sure only hogs get it. Not a fan of poison myself. It is just like Johnson Grass, Bahia, and bermuda grass. No good for wildlife. I am in a constant battle on my place with bermuda, bahia, johnson grass, and hogs. Returning to...

    Ah, the past.

Working for $5.00 a day wasn't that good, but at the same time I could ride my Cushman Eagle all afternoon on 15 cents worth of gas. I don't remember reloading component pricing at that time, but the local gun shop would sell you shotgun or centerfire rifle ammo by the "each". I bought a brand...

    Here they come again 😏

One thing that I think has affected the population is the big increase in corn prices after 2020. My son quit feeding last year, and I suspect a lot of other people did too.

    Here they come again 😏

I'm 15 miles NE of Crockett. Surrounded by DCNF.

    Here they come again 😏

I haven't seen any on my place in TX since last December. Good riddance, for now, because they will be back.

What do we need for Reloading?

Here is my experience from this past year. I have been reloading since probably around 1967, but I really got an education when I started trying to get a very quiet and accurate subsonic load for 300 blk.. Advice, spend your money on the best brass and bullets and save yourself a lot of wasted...

Soot on case head, marks on case body

What Jake said. I was using CFEBLK in my 300 (suppressed) and had flakes of carbon falling down on the bolt face. That powder is some nasty burning stuff. Low pressure too.

Anyone shot deer with the 190grn Sub-x at 1050ish fps??

I can't speak about how they do on deer, but I do shoot a lot of them. Just bought another 500. I will use them on hogs when they come back on my place. Check over at 300blktalk. Also, the Hornady 190 factory loads are designed to run in any gun, like gas guns, and you get the noise and all that...
