Sorry for the revival, but have there been any further testing with the raptor cartridge line using the XC brass? I am assuming that is what you would be using for a parent cartridge still. I’m still thinking that the 338 raptor is about the best as you could get for velocity wise and still...
Lol I can understand and I try not to flood the threads. I just use this for them as a way to gather new information about projects I may or may not build. For this, I was just curious about the new berger coming out and also wondering if it is might be used for military applications given the...
With the advent of the new 410gr berger hybrid, I got to wondering about a project I could put together for it. I'm considering a 375 Cheytac improved (Snipetac). But I was wondering what sort of velocity I would get out of this. I am intending on a longer barrel (38"). I have seen some with the...
I’ve seen some about the hellfire cases and that they’ve been winning a lot of of the competitions recently. It looks like it’s just a similar concept of David Tubbs XC but implemented onto the cheytac case and stretched it. The only issue that comes to mind is brass availability. A 416 based...
Are there anybody using a 416 caliber based off of the cheytac case in competition? I’m assuming an improved version of that could be successful given that I know some people are using the 41 XC, which would be noticeably slower. I know of the 416 stroker, but not really of its ballistics
Wow, that Warner sounds like a blast to shoot and also a blast to be around. Giving your knowledge on the subject, do you think my want of a 400 grain cutting edge at 3200 ft./s with a 38 inch barrel is too ambitious? From what I’ve seen the DCM seems to be a more aggressive improvement of the...
Honestly, that may be a good idea. You give up a little bit of velocity, but you gain 100 grains of projectile weight the 41 XC may seem small compared to the 416 Barrett and the 416 vestal, but it sure does compete. I have seen some finishers in King of 2 mile use it.
Certainly. Im just trying to see were it may end up, Ill just follow the nodes but wanted a ballpark figure. Definitely glad for the Atip as a backup. Would be cool if they made a 425gr atip actually made for the 8 twist
OK, thanks, I was mistaken. I was thinking of the 425 grain cutting edge wallets that needed like a 7 twist. But the 400 grain MTH only needs a 9 twist so that definitely safe.
What twist are you running? Im afraid that the 8 or so twist needed for the lazers will kill the atips. Given how the mono bullets usually run a little faster do you think that my goal of 3200 with a 400gr mth/lazer and a 38” barrel is plausible. Im unsure of what reamer to use ive seen an older...
Since my initial post I have seen more and more data similar to what you speak of. The velocity isn't worth the hassle and more splash on target is better than a zippy .338
Now I am thinking of an improved 375 cheytac. With a long barrel (36-38”) I am hoping for 3200 fps with a 400gr Lazer...
