I won a Texas Drawn hunt this year

I live very near Nanny Stringfellow which is why we put in for that draw. We have done the squirrel hunt there before too when my son was young and we had a blast. They do a good job on the youth hunts.

    Canned Deer

I can't watch many deer hunting shows. I am from Texas and hunt the brush country of South Texas and I can't watch just about any show where they are deer hunting in South Texas. Typically they are killing cull bucks and typically it is just about as easy as they show it to do that. Figure...

I won a Texas Drawn hunt this year

Nice! My kids have been drawn on a couple of youth hunts and we had really good experiences. My daughter killed her first buck, a spike, on a spike/doe youth hunt at Nanny Stringfellow WMA. She also shot a hog and a doe on that hunt.

How much can a stock change with proper bedding increase accuracy with a specific ammo?

It can make a huge difference. I have a Win M70 featherweight classic in .270 that had like a hot glue type bedding from the factory. I struggled with that rifle for a good while. I found one factory load that shot somewhat decent in it and everything else was 2" or more at 100 yards. I...

    Making a duck call

Echo use to sell their poly inserts and you can turn a barrel for them.

Hog bait that squirrels (and deer, doves, etc.) don't like

But the correct answer to the original question is don't lure them in if you don't already have them. You really don't want them. But once you have them plain old corn is the best option. I have soured it, soaked it in diesel, etc and plain ol' corn and plenty of it is hard to beat.

Hog bait that squirrels (and deer, doves, etc.) don't like

We use to just take an old railroad tie that was already creosoted and lean it up in the low fork of a tree. Where they could get under it and rub on it. You can also pour some burnt motor oil all over it. They will scratch and rub on it and wallow it all out around it.

    What to use??

Shoot the rifle you like the best. If you prefer your 300 PRC shoot it. The deer won't know the difference at 100 yards between a 300 PRC, .30-06 or .308.

    6.8 Western

The problem with the .260 was that it was just a little bit before it's time. The high BC /fast twist craze hadn't hit yet. That was in the late 90's. And I remember all the gun 'spurts talking about "I don't know why we need this. We already have the .270/7mm-08 that will do everything it...

    6.8 Western

The best thing about the 6.8 Western is that it'll bring the projectiles needed by .277 shooters for all sorts of projects. Some mentioned above having fast twist .270 Win or fast twist .270 WSMs, and what do you shoot in those? Your selection isn't good right now but it will be soon. You'll...

    What happened to this brass?

I remember when I was a kid (70's-80's) that there was this recurring idea where it was said that one of the benefits of the 300 Weatherby Mag was that you could shoot 300 win mag ammo in it if needed. Almost like you were shooting a .22 long rifle and could shoot 22 shorts in it with both...

Hogs - No longer Nocturnal !?!

I've hunted in areas with hogs for many years now. They are like any other animal and their activities are effected mainly by food, water, sex and predation. They are highly migratory to find whatever it is they need. I hunted a ranch for a good while that was up off a river several miles...

    SELLER: Walleyemansd

I recently bought a rifle out of the classifieds from Walleyemansd. Good guy, did what he said he was going to do. Rifle was what he said it was. Good communication thru the whole transaction. I'd buy from him again.

    300WM Sendero re-design

Would it make more sense to sell the Sendero as is, buy a Rem 700 action, order your stock, trigger, etc and go that route? I think I'd just sell it and start over. If it's a good shooting rifle you shouldn't have any problem finding a buyer. I think you'd probably come out better.
