That sounds like deer hunting in South Texas. I grew up hunting on ranchers' land, as we all knew each other and were good friends. Today, most of the ranches have been broken up, and "big city fellers" own them. You have to have some REAL money to hunt in Duval County any more.

I just really, really like the Model 70. I have two -- one was my dad's. It's in "270 W.C.F." and I think it is from the 1950s. The other is one I fell in love with when I saw it in the store. It's in 7mm S.T.W. and I honestly wish I hadn't bought it, but how can you fight such love?

I shot a hornets' nest once from about 600 yards with a .270. Hours later when I was finally brave enough to go down there and check it out, it was smashed.

Used to live in SE Louisiana. Skulked upon a whitetail and shot him from about 20 feet away. Had a wild turkey brush against my elbow once while I was sitting against a tree, but I wasn't NEARLY fast enough to get him.

Good info, 7Mag. I looked last night, and the set screw at the rear of the sight is almost turned out the bottom of the mount, and the set screw at the front of the mount isn't even touching the rifle. I'm sure glad I bought that 200-round special from CMP a while back.

Well -- that isn't why I don't like the B-Square mount. I got it on the rifle and almost couldn't get it to stop rocking forward and back. The rings that come with it are so low that I had to buy higher rings. Installing this thing hasn't been a lot of fun. I finally have it all together...

That's interesting! I LIKE 4831 (all flavors, too!), but had been told it was a bit too fast for the 7mm STW. I just might have to try it after all. Anybody tried it with 180-grain Bergers?

Thanks for the info. I think it's going to be a Weaver Grand Slam Tactical. At least I think that's the title. I've been up since 2 AM and nothing makes a lot of sense right now.

My Garand. I can no longer see through the sights, so I'm going to put a scope on her. That decision is firm. Now -- I have one of the B-Square mounts in the safe. You remove the rear sight, and the B-Square mounts to the left of the left sight "ear". The scope ends up offset to the left...

Not too many answers, apparently. I can tell you this -- my dad's rifle, that dates to 1949, still has a Weaver K6 on it, and it's still bright and accurate. Let's hope the current models are as well put together.

What's this magic number bit? I used a COAL of 3.625.
