Question for all you hunters. how do you guys handle longer range shots. I have a 7mm Rem Mag zero'ed at 250 which gives me maximum point blank range of 285 - 290. Meaning my bullet is never more than 3" above or below line of sight. That's great for my VX-II fine duples scope but what if I...
Thanks for everyones input. FWIW I went with the Nikon monarch 4-16x50 with BDC. I lime the 50 for pre dawn / twighlight times. The BDC paired with Nikons Spot On seems like anpowerful combination to know exactly what the yardage is for those little circles given my ammo. The ability to get a...
I'm down to two scopes, (a) Monarch 4-16x50 BDC and (b) Viper HS 4-16x44 dead hold recticle. The use would be predator / varmint on my AR inside 500 yards. Both will let me range witht he know MOA markings on the recticle as well as give me quick hold over on targets of opportunity. Both will...
I would guess 50-300 for Yotes and 200-300+ for PD. i think I'll buck up the extra $100 and go for the 4-16 (and never have to buy another........right???).
I want a scope that will work on my AR for both PD and yotes. Looking at a 5-15x40. Is that too much magnification at the low end for calling yotes. Alternatively, I'm also considering a 2.5-10 that would be ideal for yotes but Im not sure that is enough at the high end for a PD at 300+...
Thanks for the responses so far. To clarify. Being effective at 500 yards is a requirement or even a criteria. If it were I would be looking at a different caliber. As it is if I can be effective in the 300-400 raange that's great. I am looking at a faster twist AR. A RRA predator pursuit 1:8...
I'm going to buy an AR in 223 for a combination varmint / yorte rifle and have some questions. All advice is helpful. By the way, lots of hunting experience from upland to big game, just none of this long range small target stuff.
1. Correct me if I'm wrong but the .223 is limited from a...
