Really? 10x on a 9 inch high target? how can you tell it from the dirt? I guess thats the same as iron sights at 40 yards afterall.

I would guess 50-300 for Yotes and 200-300+ for PD. i think I'll buck up the extra $100 and go for the 4-16 (and never have to buy another........right???).

Well specifically I'm looking at a 2.5-10x44 Vortex Viper HS with a 30mm tube. I'd think at 2.5x it should do pretty well pre-dawn. Maybe?

I want a scope that will work on my AR for both PD and yotes. Looking at a 5-15x40. Is that too much magnification at the low end for calling yotes. Alternatively, I'm also considering a 2.5-10 that would be ideal for yotes but Im not sure that is enough at the high end for a PD at 300+...
