    .338 Edge?

I anneal and trim every time. Might be excessive but material removed after every firing. This makes sure the bullets are loaded consistently every time.

    Compressed loads

Tipicaly a cartridge will perform better when there isn’t much room left in the case. I’ve heard of some ELR guys using Kleenex to stuff inside the cartridge to compress the powder more. When you think about it when a cartridge of ready to be fired it’s laying down. The air gap would be at the...

    McMillan Game Scout

I bedded my tikka superlight into a stocky carbon finer stock and am very happy with it. They’re almost half the price of a McMillan amd it shoots great. I do t think they have as long of a lead time.

Why do you use Match bullets hunting?

Yeah I’m wondering if the velocity was too high.

Why do you use Match bullets hunting?

7mm rem mag MV 3200fps 150gr TTSX shot a cow moose at 80 yards penciled through 2 shoulders. Exit was smaller than entrance. The rest were mule deer shot at 100-150 yards. Killed all animals quick but no sign of expansion. Now I haven’t given up on them I’m going to chalk it up to maybe a bad...

Why do you use Match bullets hunting?

I don’t use match bullets hunting but I do use Barnes TTSX which have behaved like a match bullet on 4 occasions. Penciled right through. The only thing I can think of for using match bullets is if you are planning on shooting long range the ethical thing to do is practice a whole bunch at...

    How much XX?

I use 6.5-20. I find 6.5 is too much magnification for close encounters and in the bush. I do like the higher magnification for identifying if an animal is legal or species at distance. Bino’s don t cut it at longer ranges and I usually don’t sport my spotting scope for day hunts.

    Opinion on group shape

I agree with biednick Load up a larger sample size and re shoot. How many rounds in the barrel? How many firings on the brass? My FTR riffle never shot amazing until I had the brass fully fire formed with two shootings. Then I did another seating depth test and found a real nice group.

    Let’s talk brass

I worked with Winchester brass on my 300wsm for a target riffle. Primer pockets are tough AF. You have to anneal them because the necks were cracking after 5 firings. Also you’ll need to sort through them and neck turn them. The brass isn’t the greatest for consistency. If you are only hunting it...
