I’ve been playing with a 25 PRC for the past year and can’t find anything I don’t like about it. 133 Berger’s at 3280 fps is a great combination for long range hunting.
Build specs on my 284:
Defiance AnTi XM & bottom metal
Lilja #3 spiral fluted 1:8 20” with MBM Ti 3 port
Trigger Tech Primary
Manners UC Plus stock
Hawkins ring mounts with NXS 2-10 (shown during load work with NX8)
Had some feed issues with the Defiance mag box that took some tweaking...
My 284 coming in at 5.6 lbs and pushing 168 Berger’s at 2930 fps. The more I hunt with this rifle the more I only hunt with this rifle. Quickly has become my go to rifle. Low recoil and great accuracy. I’ve taken several elk and deer from 350 to 640 yards with zero complaints.
The 243 Win is an easy choice with all the brass options but the 6 Rem will take it any day on velocity. I grew up with the 6 mm and still stick with it because of that. Just wish there was more brass options. The 6mm AI gives the 6-284 a close run. One of the biggest gains in an Ackley.
Last year I built a 1:8 twist 270 AI by Alex Wheeler. 24" Krieger barrel and getting 2940 fps with a 170 Berger, 280 AI Peterson brass, and 58.4 gr of N560. I've been very happy with it so far. Just using my 280 AI dies with a smaller neck bushing.
