I used one as my primary hunting cartridge for perhaps 5 years. I made impressive kills on whitetail out to 576 yards. The accuracy was better than average. I sold it and bought a Sako TRG in 30-378 Weatherby that was much more accurate and flat shooting. I still have perhaps 80 handloaded 300...
Nothing fancy with this over the counter Savage 110 FCP. It has a 20 MOA rail. The scope is a Nightforce 5.5X22X56 NSX. I have a backpack style sling from the Longrange store.
He’s only shooting 0.5 grain more than the max load. If you cross reference several manuals (I have 8) you’ll find multiple variation of the max load. I most generally start my load mid pack and then proceed up ward in 1/2 grain increments until signs of high pressure develope and then I back it...
I just eyeballed your data and figured it should be feasible given I’m shooting 300 grain Sierras at 2794. I just pulled my Sierra manual and it shows several 250 grain loads in excess of 3000 FPS. Hell don’t take my word for it, here you go
My 300 grain Sierras loaded 3000th’s off the lands barely fit in my Savage FCP magazine but the do fit with perhaps 1/8” to spare. Even so, the rounds in the magazine will suffer damaged tips under recoil.
It’s been my experience over a lifetime of shooting that when it comes time to purchase optics most skimp and never learn how accurate the rifle or the shooter is. I can’t tell you in good faith a cheap or even moderately price scope that tracks straight, returns to zero or holds up to recoil or...
I don’t have any experience on anything bigger than a whitetail buck. Saying that, I’ve shot deer with all kinds of rifles from varmint rigs to 375 H&H magnums. All killed the deer plenty dead. It’s been my experience that fast light bullets placed in the heart area produce instantaneous death...
I use Dewey rods, cotton flannel patches, Butches Bore cleaner and gun oil. I use a bore guide at all times pushing the patches towards the muzzle. As far as the bolt and action I use the same technique after I remove the bolt. The last thing I do after using the bore solvent is to wipe it all...
I’ve hunted deer my entire life. I started with a spear and then a recurve Kodiac Magnum. Once I got 12 years old I hunted with both a recurve and a 30-30. Over the years the equipment and deer have improved.
