—Official 2024 Predator & Varmint Kills— Post Em Up

The little 17HMR with the 17 gr V-Max bullet is impressive at closer ranges (60 yards or so).

Powder , primers and bullits shortage

Don‘tknow if it is a fluke, or maybe a light at the end of the tunnel, but was thrilled to find Winchester small rifle primers at Sportsmen's Warehouse the other day. I never thought I would see primers for less than $5 per 100 again! Limit was 2 per person, and I got the last two (for a buddy...

    Primer Seating?

If you have never encountered this issue (in 55 years of reloading, no less), then either you have loaded on the mild side exclusively, haven’t reloaded that much volume or have been extremely lucky to get great quality brass. Anyone who loads for performance will eventually encounter enlarged...

Here are a couple of older published load data for the .338 Win Mag from Speer No. 12 and Lyman 49th Edition:

    Is this for real???

If you think about it, the “lowlife who is setting the prices”, is, in fact, the buyer. Also, you don’t know what the seller paid to acquire their Reloder 26 (or Federal 210M primers), so there is an element of potential risk for the seller, like the housing market, just on a smaller scale. I...

    Ball powder list

Given that you have a good quantity of H-450, I would consider trying it in your .270WSM. My old loading manuals Speer No. 10, Hornady 4th Edition and Hodgdon Data Manual No. 25 from 1981, 1991 and 1988 respectively each show maximum charges for 100 or 110 gr bullets for the .270 Win as 62.0 or...

Not sure where to post this!

If your goal is affordable accuracy, you might also try SK Standard Plus. In my CZ 455, it outshoots CCI Standard. Norma TAC-22 is close and currently on sale for less than CCI SV.

    Ball powder list

H-450 has been out of production for years. It was discontinued prior to the .270 WSM being introduced, hence the lack of published loading data for that particular cartridge. If you are seeking slower burning ball powders for use in cartridges similar to the .270 WSM, I suggest looking for...

Need for Speed? Let's look at the 204 Ruger!

I get the appeal of negligible recoil and high speed, but is it really all that much better than my 15 year old 26” barrel Remington SPS Varmint in .223 Rem? Boring? Yes, but after 15 years and thousands of rounds, it still pushes 40 gr tipped bullets over 3700 FPS with impressive effects on...

Should we start to boycot these high prices?

Having read the previous 326 posts ( I am retired, so have the time), I reply to the original poster: No. A boycott of all sellers would not be effective to reduce prices. I encourage the OP to embrace the free market system. If you encounter products you desire at a price you find...

LRP(M) For Elk Hunt Load Development

I would re-word your post. If “your nephew is willing to pay more than a fair price,” he will probably be able to acquire some.

    270 win load data

If you have some H-4350 on hand, fine. If you don’t, good luck finding some. Other popular (hard to find options) are H-4831, IMR-4350, 4831 and 7828. A couple I have recently played with that worked well are Ramshot Hunter and Alliant Power Pro 4000-MR. You might even find those available.

    270 load data

Other powders that you might consider (and occasionally even available to purchase) are Ramshot Hunter and Alliant Power Pro 4000-MR. Ihave had very good accuracy and velocity with Hornady130 gr Spire Points. Haven’t tested them on game, but thousands of deer fall every year to Power Points...

Your favorite cartridge based off .30-06?

Killed my first deer with a 30-06, should have kept it. (Model 70 Lightweight Carbine with 20” featherweight contour barrel, Leupold 2-7x scope. Kicked pretty hard). But my favorite is the old .270 Win. Have to admit, after buying a .338 Federal for my son, a 338-06 would be intriguing.
