Moving Sale - All Mounts in Trophy Room

Market value, and sentimental value rarely match up.

There's nothing wrong with that, it's just the way life is.

Used taxidermy has a value, but it's extra difficult to get anything close to their original cost.

The target mkt for used taxidermy is very small.

We would. Love acceptably some ofv thrb biggerbon see if our currrb ntcollection
My phone writing words that I didn't post. Hopefully will have the new laptop running tomorrow.
On the subject of Mounts. I know several Taxidermists and they sell mounts left in their shops for their costs. Plus they usually take a 50% deposit so they make money.
right now with the economy mounts are pennies on the dollar. If you're a trophy Hunter you want your own mounts. the general public may want a nice mount for over the fireplace, but not $$$$.
The full mounts could be bought by Cabelas, but again for pennies. People are NOT buying full mounts for their house. Full mounts are only for the person that shot the animal.
We have probably $$$$$ in mounts and the same amount for shipping from other countries in our Game Room. It's Fur, Antlers, Horns, Teeth & Claws sitting there and not really any $$$ In investmen.
Just a lot of memories that can't put a price on.
PRICELESS!!!! For us
Wish him the best in selling, would be better if he didn't need to sell and keep for their new home.
Have no idea what will happen to all our mounts once I am gone. No one in the family wants them. None of our nieces and nephews hunt. Probably give away to friends children that we mentored over years.

Since Bass Pro took over Cabelas I don't believe they buy mounts any longer. Most of the mounts in the Sidney store have gone away except for the 'mountain'.

Maybe could try an auction house. Also, may be able to donate a few of them for a fundraising auction at Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation or Mule Deer Foundation banquet. Then use the donation for a tax write off.

I hope the sale works out for your family. I have no idea what will happen to all my stuff and becasue of that, I have stopped doing mounts. My manhouse is full, I just take pictures now.

One note, and it is an important one. The boar from NC must have a permit to sell it. Many other states require the same type permit. The permit is free in NC, you just need to contact NC wildlife and do the paper work. Just do your homeowrk on this as the fines can be substantial.

I also was going to suggest maybe an auction if you really just want them gone

about 3 yrs ago, I went to an auction for an estate that the previous owner was a huge life time hunter, had a custom built 40x120 ft building built just for all his mounts, and it was STUFFED full, he had elephants on down, tigers lions and bears and you name it, he hunted it and had most all full sized mounts on things, put my local cabela's to shame with what all he had!
the amount of $$ he must have spent on hunts, and mounts,
was un real!
when I first got there, I couldnlt believe he had so many mounts!
Oddly, there wasn't a single gun for there at the auction, ??
I really had no interest in buying any, but I stuck a round to see what some of the things went for!

he had 10 different full sized grizzly/brown bears and even a Polar bear!(which wasn't able to sell due to some permit or something wasn't ready yet!) and about 6-7 black bears

but the Brown bears, some standing, some on all 4's, went any where from 750 bucks(I was tempted to buy one at that price) to about 4500, and they came with a written documented story in a leather binder, telling of the hunt, which I thought was super cool!
I didnl;t stick around to see what all the African game animals went for
but nothing I seen go off at this auction went for very much
I am sure the man that shot everything would NOT have been happy seeing his things go for so cheap, I'm almost sure he would have rather-ed trash them to see things he obviously loved and was passionate about, be sold so cheaply!

but after talking to a few of his family members there, they had ZERO interest in them, and just wanted them GONE, ,!
to me that was sad to hear, as its a shame what happen's some times when we pass away with our beloved items!

BUT sounds like this deal here the owner is still alive, and as such, MAYBE might want to adjust some prices, or try an auction to sell them , if they too just want them gone!

you can also try putting add's in local news papers, or possibly online add sites like craigslist or face book market place

just be aware that in SOME states it ILLEGAL to sell game animal or PARTS< and some times that means MOUNTS too!

Local bars , are also worth stopping in and asking if hey have interest, all the more so when you get into more rural area's
if seller has desire to do so!
