I'm looking to build a rifle again I just build a 270 wsm and shoot the 165 matrix and 170 bergers and it shoots them around 3000fps and love the rifle. But I was thinking about building a 27nosler around the same bullets or even the heavy hammer bullets. Alot of places I hunt have shots from 10yards out to 1000. So I was thinking going to the 126hammer hunter in my 270 wsm for when I hunt the timber and making the 270 nosler my longrange rifle. So my question is does anyone have any first hand experience with the 27 nosler?

We've got one but have only shot our bullets out of it. we did an 7" twist to run our 168g Hammer Hunter. Runs them about 3300 fps. I don't have the journal in front of me.

Any problems with it? And what barrel did you you? 3300fps is awesome with 168 gr bullet.. would you say barrel life would be like the 28nosler?

I think that one was a Excaliber barrel.

Technically it should be a little harder on the barrel than the 28n just because the same amount of powder is going down a smaller bore.

Super fun to shoot with the small PK break. Almost no recoil.

I build one. Sammi spec. So 30nosler necked down. Freebore for 170 Shoots 170 Berger 3130 fps h-1000. 3200 with retumbo but liked 1000 better. Really no advantage over a 28. But is cool and something different

Do you know what kinda velocity I would be looking at with a 26" barrel with the 156 hamners?

My guess is you would be in the mid 3300's fps.

I looked up what we had done with ours. We ran rl33 with 168g Hammer Hunter. We ran it TOO high and reached 3320fps. This resulted in a pierced primer and a messed up firing pin. The lesson learned here is that the Nosler line of cartridges tend to not show pressure until it is too late. We were really in the wildcat area with our bullet and no data for a 27n. Got too excited about getting the vel we were and zero pressure signs. Watch your vel when working with the Nosler cartridges. If vel is too high so is the pressure. All that said the load that we settled on was 84g rl33 at a vel of 3236fps. This is a top end load and should be worked up to with caution.

That's true but the body length of the 27 is real close, .0061" shorter than the 30. The OAL case length of the 27 is .034" longer than the 30.
Again you are correct. The point that I failed to make was that the 27 Nosler and the 28 Nosler
share the same OAL and the 27 Nosler and the 30 Nosler do not. Therefore you can make 27 Nosler from 28 Nosler brass but the 30 Nosler would be too short.
I was trying to point out that you can't just buy 30 Nosler brass and neck it down to 27 Cal and have 27 Nosler brass. The devil is always in the details and that is why I included the SAAMI drawings.

Yea so if they ever do make 27 brass and factory ammo. The reamer I had made off a 30 nosler parent case will work. But who shoots factory ammo anyway.
