LRF-Vectronix Terrapin

Weather meter: Kestrel 4000NV- Mostly for DA but I use it for wind every now and then.

I have a PDA with EXBAL and a Phone with apps.

I have a GPS but I don't use it to much for shooting. I have but I think only once, maybe twice hunting.

All gear but the LRF might get left/not used.

I have range cards I made for different DA, so I might use the Kestrel every few hours when not moving much to check DA. That get me out of the PDA.

If I could only have one device: LRF for sure.

Looks like you have enough electronics to stay busy.

I use a simple Radio Shack wind gauge, It's fairly accurate on
wind speed. Doesn't tell you the wind speed at the target or in between.
I also carry a small hand held CB radio with a weather station. I bring
my GPS to find the nearest road for packout. I tend to hunt areas closed
closed to motor vehicles. I carry an ARC range finder good to 700 yds.

I will buy a longer range one when they get cheaper.

If you can do it with less, that's always better. Most all of my focus of shooting go into learning to do the best with the least but if you truly want GREAT results there is a lot of gear to help you out as always helpful

Less gear to depend on less to worry about.

I agree with you on that.

However, most probably your shooting is like most of us, divided between the
range and the hunt.

At the range, which is now out to 1400 yards. I want all
the assets I can afford to aid in obtaining those tight groups.

In the field, my equipment comes in on my back and being one of the ancient
ones, I keep it pretty simple and still get the job done.

Which electronics do you use?

Leupold RX-1200I TBR - its fine for archery but not a fan for rifle. Will keep it for archery but about ready to invest in the G7 for rifle use.

Garmin Rhino 650T - just took advantage of this thru Cabelas at $349 on sale. I had the ol trustee Rhino 110

Havent found an in field ballistic program I like. The G7 will handle that anyhow once I make the purchase

Pro Chrony - Seems to work great so far. Accurate during our long range testing

I'm surprised that such a low percentage of people are using ballistics programs. I'm assuming this means any electronic device that helps you figure out your external ballistics (Like the G7 or Kestrel mentioned above or a shooting app on a smartphone). I thought it would be much higher.

I agree. I use a Strelok+ app religiously....dialing or using the BDC reticle in my Vortex...sometimes you just don't have time to dial.

Before I got my G7RF about 6 years ago I used a Terrapin/Shooter/ Kestral combo which worked out quite well. I still use this set-up for my ELR work, but the G7 matches the outputs of that system exsctly to 1200 yards, but is much faster for my primary quarry....deer, antelope, and coyotes.
I guess I'm not that surprised with the low usage of ballistic devices. When you look at the poll for distances that game is shot, the majority is taken under 500 yards where drop charts and calibrated reticles work quite well.
