Water,,, sharp knife and sharpener,,, frugal head lamp & a few spare batteries,,, surveyors ribbon,,, the old school compass,,, tiny little bottle of alcohol sanitizers to light a fire just incase,,, a few extra large garbage bags incase of emergency that fold away nice... A chunk of thin wire & parachute cord or string... Throw in a few extra things of your choosing... Cell phone since the GPS works with no cell service for google maps... I like to keep mine hand in a thick strap hip-pack incase I have to bolt out on a wild critter chase... Ha All of us think that things will always turn out when we're not to far from our cabin,,, truck or home,,, it only takes 1 wrong move when we least expect it to have things go South... """Could go South... I've had 1 stint that actually turned out in my favor with a banged up leg,,, broken collar bone and stubbed foot,,, it was the longest 22 km/ 13 1/2 mile walk before reaching 911 to save my @as... dam lucky for sure... Do or Don't at each persons choosing,,, the number 1 thing that stands out in my excursion was not having enough water,,, even if its to wet the lips,,, poor over our head and damp down for cooling with a wet cloth... Cheers from the North
