What is your best deer rifle

1960 remington 760 carbine in 280 rem. Sierra 160 gameking (if theres bear around) or 139 sst all handloaded to medium velocities listed. Fantastic on hogs too

Hey Oldschool I have one of the 280 carbine's in 760! Sure don't see many of them around. The one I have was my Dad's and of course I have hunted with it. It is now mostly relegated to the safe as I prefer bolt actions, one of which is a 280!

All time favorite, probably a 700 Rem short action that I customized and rebarreled to 358 Win.

Awesome! You are one of 121 280 carbine owners. Saw one go for 2300 on gunbroker recently. Mine was a gift so i'll keep it till i die then the kids can wrestle for it. Never fired a 358 win , must go crunch when it hits em huh?

Really, only 121 were made? Knew they were rare but....Years ago I was offered $1,000 from a dealer for it, sight unseen, but as stated it was my Dad's and I have no desire to sell it. Great memories!

I use 200 Hornady SP's mostly in the 358, loaded to about 2500 fps. Many say caliber does not matter and of course dead is dead, but it is my distinct impression that game hits the dirt quicker when I whack em with the 358.

Re: remington 760 in 280

According to gun data at gun-data.com/remington_mod_model760.htm indicates the were made from 1958 thru to 1967 it didn't say how many were produced. Thanks

Interesting, but I believe they may be referring to the rifle version, not the carbine. Think the carbine was only cataloged for a year or two.
