North Idaho Hunter, I just picked up a Browning X Bolt in a 6.5 CM Though I'd give it a try. My hunting buddy has a Tikka in a 6.5x55 and it really knocks the deer over.

I use a 243 savage 110L , Leopold vx 2, 50 mm, for deer in open country shooting. 100 grain nosler partitions handloaded.

For brush shooting I have a win model 100 in 308. Peep sight . Using 180 grain nosler partitions for deer and moose.

I think you should match your rifle to the shooting conditions. old243

Browning A-Bolt 30.06. Recently bought a new rifle. Kind of feel guilty giving attention to the new rifle.

hunterjmj, yep, I know how ya feel, my Browning A Bolt 06 won't be to far away if this new 6.5 CM X Bolt doesn't drop the deer like the 06. I've taken shots with that 06 that has amazed me, near or far the 165gr. Sierra GK in the 06 has never failed.
I'm not overlooking some of you ole boys with them 30-30's and 243's a few of my friends hunt with them rifles and they whack em and stack em.

Most recent and most excited to try my new custom build 260. Rem which seems to shoot both the 140 vld's and the 140 Amax really well. Depending on where I'm hunting I've used my Remington 243. Win, browning a-bolt 300. WSM, Winchester model 70 270. Win and my marlin 30-30. All have worked wonderful
